Neither Quinn or JJ have a lock on the roster. They're expected but certainly not locked in this early.

Kulich probably plays in the A this year but he has the body for the NHL and he can certainly play. Be interesting to see if he is serious about taking a spot in the big this year or if he needs the year in the A.

Internal competition was the topic of discussion and guys pushing for the 6th and 7th spot do matter. Depth matters. Guys pushing for those spots means we have that internal competition which is never a bad thing.

Defiantly does matter how Joker is progressing and where he and Lybush fit. Ideally Lybush is Powers stay at home protective d-man and Joker takes a step forward as a solid 2-way D-man. Those 2 are having an internal competition for the top 4.

Most definatly matters where these guys play. Hockey players have a desired position and whether its Centre or winger they will push each other to be better if they themselves want a certain spot.

Not sure how you refuse to see it. These are good things to have.

if bjork sucks at camp and makes opening lineup over quinn and peterka, we riot

All that table pounding paid off for the clown. Bishop is no longer a development coach for the stars, until probably July 1st.

Wow, isn't that just common sense.

How the league almost let that happen

I don't see Bjork playing but Vinnie could definitely be in for one of them.

Maybe Sheehan plays 4C and Girgs on the wing as well.

After Quinn's playoffs I wanna see some bulk in him. He'll just hurt again if not.

There's some good teams in there. The boys need to start fast and carry the good vibes, or we could be in for a long one. Two tough home games to start, but let's hope we have a packed house for the opener Thursday night and that carries into a sellout for Saturday afternoon against the Cats. We need at least 2 points out of those 4. I don't care the opponents; we can't expect to lose at home. 5 and 5 minimum over these first ten if we expect to contend for a playoff spot.

Seems like Quinn and Peterka are locks for the NHL roster. Where in the lineup is the only question.

Kulich isn't making the NHL roster with their ability to send him to the AHL and play things safe with him.

Are the 6th and 7th defense positions really a big deal, or greatly impactful to the NHL roster?

Does it matter much whether Jokiharju and Lyubushkin are on the 2nd or 3rd pair? What matters with the defense is the trio of Dahlin, Samuelsson and Power continuing to improve.

Do the positions really matter with Mittelstadt or Krebs?

I'm still failing to see the great internal competition for the NHL roster when it's almost entirely already set.

- kingcong39

Skins and Tage are about the only two forwards "set", and probably Tuch with them, but maybe Olo instead. Add Girgs to L4.
So 9 or 10 spots up for grabs internally. I'd say it matters to the players if they're on L2 or L4.

Are any teams really having open rosters right now? No. It's all internal at this point.
That's all they are saying...IMO of course.

Agreed, almost no competition for the roster. A few decisions on the lineup, which never sticks anyways. Not an exciting camp this year.

even if the sabres bring back okposo and girens next season, gonna be hard to get to cap floor even with tage's deal
- homiedclown

13 players signed for 45m. 3 RFAs due for significant raises. Seems easy for them to come in right at the floor again, without a Bishop.

15M to get to the floor in 24. If Mitts/Olo are traded that's another 2.5 and 4.75 needed as well. With 5 defense set (Dahlin, Lyub, Joki, Power, and to an extent Bryson) 2 goalies (Comrie UPL) and 7 Fs (Skinner, Tuch, Mitts, VO, TT, Quinn, Krebs) with JPP knocking for only 1M along with at least one of Rosen/Kulich/Kisakov/Savoie/Ostlund, that's 6 spots with 13 to go. Can go big game hunting (Kane, Pasta, Dumba, Meier, Larkin) or can take a bunch of bad contracts.

I did forget Cozens, Samuelsson, and Asplund from below. That said, I don't think Sauelsson or Asplund break the bank by any means. Cozens could, but history shows unless he blows up he's getting a bridge deal.

Gotta let the season play out, Asplund + Samuelsson roughly double their $ on bridge deals. Cozens likely more. They split up Bishop's $, in a way.

Why wait to go big game hunting...?

https://theathletic.com/3...ource=user-shared-article

New Stars coach Pete DeBoer said he would have sleepless nights this offseason from the excitement of coaching Jason Robertson. That excitement will be put on hold. Robertson will not be in Cedar Park when the Stars begin training camp Thursday morning, Dallas general manager Jim Nill said Wednesday.

Robertson’s absence is due to contract negotiations that have stalled. The 23-year-old restricted free agent is coming off of a season in which he scored 41 goals and was a point-per-game player for the Stars. Nill, who has typically held back from negotiating contracts through the media, said the discussions have been good, but both sides are clearly still working through some differences. Nill said the Stars are open to a long-term or bridge deal with Robertson, but stopped short of expanding beyond that.

This roster projects so easily into next season that it's hard to expect big changes. We know they won't rush the kids, so it's only Savoie really forcing a decision next year.

who gets big raise?

right now samuelsson and cozens are 2 mil per year bridge guys
asplund around 1,5 mil

that puts them around 51 mil
defense set
pretty much covers all but 1 spot up front assuming peterka, quinn and 1 oe 2 other kids are ready in 12 months

gonna be time to ship a few out and get a few upgrades next summer
