Didn't they slash their training staff along with all the other pandemic down-sizing? Not chalking that one all up to luck. They have a pretty bad reputation at this point.

I wouldn't blame anyone for being skeptical of the Sabres after the hellscape the team has traversed for more than a decade

It's a budget organization atm. Just glad they chose to spend on analytics.

Sabres embedded video was pretty good.

Sam Ventura was tracking data on Comrie back to 2016. They didn’t go fully into detail but seemed interesting

Well hopefully it all works and he can translate his game from a backup to starter.

All things considered, aren't analytics the biggest bang for their buck?

Baller!
Gotta say I loved this blog...great effort and references!

Sabres projected 80% confidence level between 70 - 85 pts, with target of 77 pts according to Dom at The Athletics...he has been pretty accurate in the past.
I am not as bullish as some projecting mid/high 90's ... but think the higher end of Dom's range at 85 pts is pretty reasonable.

IMO, so much depends on the G's, and on Tage maintaining consistency/growing from last year. Sure, there are many other influences, but those are the 2 Keys to the Season.
There is plenty of risk and opportunity there.

BTW, Congrats to Adams...he deserves it.
There were numerous naysayers to McBeaner on here...many who ridiculed the Trust the Processs, now they are bandwagon fans...ignore them.

Go Sabres!!

(frank) it, burn it all. We're pushing for the playoffs this season. Might not make it but we're in the convo come March.

I'd say so, but it's still a big change from Jason Nightingale to a true analytics group that influences their decisions. Credit to KA or Karmanos...leaning towards Karmanos on that one.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have undoubtedly the largest, highest paid, and most respected analytics staff in hockey. It is said to be 2x the size of the next most robust staff in the NHL. They too, like the Buffalo Sabres (another reported analytics genius staff), take a shlt on their goaltending every season. How's that been working? The only thing really known about any analytics staff is they do their best to ensure no one actually knows what they do (much like the man behind the curtain in the Wizard of Oz). Apparently the Sabres have a great analytics staff, but no one can point to specifics of what they've done because those fingers would inevitably point to failures. The Buffalo Sabres have blown for every season their amazing analytics staff has existed.

The single, most important thing the Sabres have done in recent time is transition TT to center ice from wing. That move was 100% coaching and 0% analytics. Can someone please start listing the analytic successes of this organization? I'd love to know them so I can stop laughing at the idea of extending a GM who hasn't produced a team capable of leaving the NHL basement.

He hired the Head Coach you are giving all the credit to.
Btw, I love the Granato hire and think he is absolutely perfect for this team, right here, right now.

He focused his initial hires to build the Aanalytics team...that has had a direct impact on the draft picks. Those drafts have received pretty good reviews in building the best prospect pool.

He has hired on a pretty good development coaching staff in Rochester.

All very good steps to take when the sstratevy is to build through the draft.

For as very young team, focus on strong player development and draafting is an excellent strategy...much better than the last two idiots we have seen F-up the org. Has he made mistakes... absolutely. Yet, the org is tracking in the right direction, finally.
If you can't see it, I dont know what to tell you.

Why Not, I might call him out on some of the stuff he has or hasn't done. But he has rebuilt the Sabres from top to bottom over the last 3yrs. Well really 2 and a half, the first 6 months he had to fire everyone. Only thing that surprised me is President wasn't attached to it.

Some players are injured, Engvall and Liljegren so probably not until December? Depends.

I mean in terms of job description, he's met expectations. In that sense, he's earned the extension. The problem isn't whether or not Adams has met expectations. It's that the standard set by this franchise is frustratingly low.

Kevyn flat out admitted that prior to this season, players didn't want to come here. So.. yay?

No doubt, when the playoffs are a distant thought in November again this year let's give him a raise. I mean, do they think he was going to get poached by another organization? We couldn't wait to see if this season ends before the calendar turns like the last 10 have?

All that said, maybe Eric Comrie will have us in the playoffs. Maybe we'll be better than 22nd in the NHL in goals scored. Or, maybe all the good vibes leave within two months because we can't stop pucks or score them. But, at least we've locked up Adams, so we got that going for us.
