Expect it to happen. If they had complete faith in any of these guys they drafted then you do not sign ND and ZM. Then add Antoine on the PTO. - furio16
No, you can if you wish. I prefer to be angry, disappointed and livid if that’s how it rolls or happy, relieved and supportive if they are true to their word with an actual competition. I think this franchise has already reduced my expectations to a pile of rubble, I have to draw the line here.

The biggest issue with Fletcher is probably not his incompetence up till now….what about going forward? Does anyone have any confidence what so ever that he can fix this or at least get them going in the right direction? He’s clearly not the answer going forward….all the excuses in the world up till now don’t make it any more plain to see….he’s not the guy that should be leading this franchise.

As I previously posted, my biggest problem with Fletcher is there does not seem to be a plan for this team mid to long term. Being a bubble team that makes the playoffs this year does NOTHING for this team mid to long term, because the team as constituted cannot sustain that level of play or build to a higher level of play. They just don't have the horses on the current roster or in their system to play in today's NHL IMO. The Flyers have nice players but no studs. The Flyers could have obtained a stud player this past offseason but Fletcher's cap management was extremely poor (resigning Risto and signing DeAngelo) and they missed their opportunity. The 2023 draft is a perfect opportunity to obtain the type of player the Flyers need desperately, thus even trying to make the playoffs this season makes absolutely no sense! The right play is play out the season giving Torts a year to establish his system, trade as much as you can at this year's deadline and get into the top 5 of the 2023 draft. But Fletcher seems to be completely unwilling to do this, though he may not have a choice given the injuries to Ellis and Couturier. So the Flyers are capped out and cannot currently take advantage of potential free agents or trades, and they don't seem to want to tank for Bedard or one of the stud players available in 2023. So what is the plan? That is why I have no faith in Fletcher any longer. |

The fact that it is even a question if these young guys can beat out the PTO/Macewen/Brown players really points to how bad the drafting has been the past 6 years |

Why did Yandle wait until now to announce his retirement? Did he think someone may come calling with a contract? |

They say the same thing every year about competition yet they go out and sign slugs like ND that block younger kids from playing - corduroy
What does it say that in the last 8 years since the Sanheim draft in 2014, the Flyers have a grand total of 2 drafted forwards (TK and Farabee) as regular forwards on the team. Others have been call ups and some may make the team this season, but 2 for that time frame really makes you think.
How long can we expect it to take if we start over? It’s now for many of those draft years forwards and blocking them is just cutting off your nose to spite your face.

We aren't questioning it because of talent level or on ice performance. We question it because we don't believe the organization knows what it is doing. |

Doesn’t matter, I’m totally aware but at this point these young guys should be able to make the decision for the team. |

It’s a good thing those scouts continue to remain employed though right?
Clarke would have you believe all the negatives stem from the boogeyman that is Hextall, and not a scouting department that faces no accountability for their performance. |

Hextall was terrible, he certainly played a part in this mess. There’s no accountability anywhere in this organization |

I understand the concept. Yes they SHOULD be able to make the decision. But I don't think the organization feels like they should be making a youth movement. They want a veteran team on the ice.
They are willing to risk losing young players to waivers to do it.

Is Rick Bronwell still there? Holy crap. The Flyers list 3 equipment managers and 3 assistant equipment managers. Do teams normally carry that many equipment guys? - Minnyhock
Rick is. Harry was let go. |

We all know Chuck should have been fired already, but if he tries to trade even more picks to shore up this doomed season he needs to be frog marched out of the building immediately. |

Hextall got fired after 4.28 seasons in charge, so there was some accountability.
But none for Fletcher so far, who has been GM for almost four years now. |

Look who we are talking about here tho. Alison, nonstop injuries, Lacinyski, non stop injuries. Ratcliffe, showed a glimpse of a bottom 6 guy last year but that was it a glimpse. They seem to be more than willing to play Cates/Frost. Bottom line is these young guys are injured or just not that good. |

When Chuck was hired he said the Flyers were in a good spot to compete for a championship.
https://www.espn.com/nhl/...tcher-new-general-manager
"It is an honor to join the Flyers, an iconic NHL franchise, and I would like to thank Dave Scott and Paul Holmgren for entrusting me to guide the team forward," Fletcher said. "Adding to my excitement is the high level of talent that is in place, which sets this opportunity apart and will pay dividends as we move the organization ahead and ultimately compete for a championship."
And Dave Scott was so confident he had the right guy.
"At the conclusion of a rigorous review of GM candidates, Chuck Fletcher clearly stood out from the field of talented and capable executives we considered," Dave Scott, chairman and CEO of Comcast Spectacor and Flyers governor, said in a statement. "Chuck has earned success throughout his impressive NHL career and offers the right mix of expertise, business acumen and leadership qualities that the Flyers need today as we work to achieve our ultimate goal, the Stanley Cup championship." |

He was terrible. Hanging on to a coach for far too long, and failing to bring in actual young elite talent.
Fletcher I would say has been far worse, as he’s bled far more assets, and hurt the teams future with piss poor contracts.
Both have been bad. There is solace however in knowing that the scouts mentioned, or other men in long held positions have retained their jobs through both GM’s.
Yet we hear a lot about accountability, and a locker room resting on its laurels.
Perhaps Bill could enlighten us why the same standard isn’t applied to men in hockey ops? |

Scott didn’t know who Fletcher was until it was suggested to him by the same men currently involved in influencing direction of the team.
Its that group that is the issue here, the same group the some so fervently defend, and grovel at the feet of. Removing Fletcher, only to bring in another GM hand picked by that brain trust is folly.
SanFilippo was bang on when he wrote the article that they all have to go. Even if it leads to tears of their ardent supporters. |

No saying it is wrong, but contradictions like this are not appreciated by many folks. Tells us it is a competition and young guys have an opportunity to make the team. In reality, there is zero chance. I hate being lied to, and I call BS on this for Fletcher. I expect better than BS from Torts. - NC Flyers Fan

This is the biggest issue and that falls squarely on Comcast.
I beg people to stop giving this franchise money. |
