While I'd give an "A" to Morrissey last season, I'd give a "B-" to Demelo. Firstly you can't count on Demelo to put up any points Secondly, the guy just isn't tough enough. The only thing that is keeping him on the top pairing is the fact the Jets lack decent riight side Dmen . Pionk is his only real competition. DeMelo never was , and never will be a top-pairing defenseman in my eyes. Chevy would be smart to still find that right trade that finds us a bonafide right-side top pairing Dman. Pionk looked like that guy before 2021 before falling off. Maybe he will bounce back and earn his spot alongside Morrissey on the top pair ?

I. also think Heinola will get the nod this season to get a lot more ice time with the Jets. So that leaves some interesting decisions going forward. Certainly, Nate Schmidt is looking pretty vulnerable for a trade , even if given up for nothing.

I like these combos, although I can see them as controversial amongst the posters here....

Morrissey - Pionk
Dillon - Samberg ( moved to RD)
Heinola - Demelo
Stanley

No room for Nate Schmidt and all his mistakes on this 2022 roster. Send him to minors and hope some team picks him up and his egregious salary

1st pairing can put up points and is useful for faceoffs in O-zone
2nd pairing would be quite tough
3rd pairing has DeMelo covering the backside while Heinola does his thing
Stanley can fill in where needed.

I agree with this D lineup. While I think Demelo is overrated, he is an ideal reliable bottom pairing with Heinola who can try and push some offense. That is a decent sheltered pairing. Stanley may need to crack the lineup once and a while tho, as he brings physicaliy and willingness every night when some of the Jets seem to be lacking. Stanley certainly does what he can to get the boys fired up. Not sure why Lowry doesn't mix in more of that. Guy might be the toughest guy in the league but we rarely get a glimpse.

Any I am not worried about Pionk. He is one of those guys that drives opponents nuts and really shows that his work ethic is #1. Won't be surprised if he is the best D this season.

I agree Demelo is overrated. He’s like Adam Lowry….the defenseman version. Overrated and overhyped.

Pionk will easily be number one on a weak defensive core. Its easy to look good when everyone else is bad.

Here's to hoping Samberg or Heinola can really step into a big role. Was nice to see a noticeable improvement in JoMo's last season, but he is not a #1D. The fact that he can only be successful with Demelo speaks volumes.

Is there even one D in camp or waiting for moose camp that is worse than Stanley? Honestly!!! He is about 27th on the D depth chart. Guys we haven’t even drafted yet are better.

Who cares about toughness?? Seriously. The jets give up the least amount of chances and shots with Demelo on the ice. Dillon for example allow almost twice as many. So tell me how toughness matters? And don’t get me started on Stanely. Guy couldn’t make my old alum, transcona Railers

How is Demelo over rated on his contract. He is twice the player of Pionk and making half?

Its pretty hard to call Demelo over rated. Regardless of where he is in the lineup he is more likely to be overlooked than anything.

I am not too sure if you are correct about this statement. Did you guys invite him to try out? I am sure if he did, he would be your teams MVP.

Results right to missing the playoffs and picking 14th overall at the draft.
