I thought everything that is valid during season re: LTIR stays valid in off-season AND you get 10% more to play with. So, for instance, if salary cap is about 82 m and Ellis is about $6.5m then for a cap ceiling team like the Flyers, in-season salary cap would be essentially 82m +6.5 m = 88.5m.
And during following off season, the salary cap would be 110% of 82m = 90m odd + LTIR = 96.5m.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong. - PT21

In any other circumstance, I’d be happy with the idea of the team gaining significant cap space by LTIR, since it seemed a forgone conclusion Ellis would miss significant time. I’m not thrilled by the idea, it’s CF who has it. |

Looking forward to seeing what the GM has up his sleeve to address the center position. Arguably the weakest in the entire NHL currently by far. |

That's a tough ask considering this roster is weaker than last season's. - Scoob
You're right but structured defense and a direction for this team can also produce a few extra points for the season and I don't think any of us want any extra points this year.
I certainly do not. The more losses the better for the next couple of years. I say that as a passionate fan. It's time to tear it down |

How did Couturier go from dead to “week to week”? - SuperSchennBros
What I didn't know until Fletcher mentioned it was that Patrick Brown also had back surgery and he is week to week. I mean, its deja vu all over again!
What I did like to hear from Fletcher today is this is a make or break year for several younger players and that his goal to see what he has in the organization. I also liked hearing his goal is to resign Travis Sanheim. |

He’s probably going throw an absurd amount of money at Jumbo Joe to talk him out of retiring, with the promise to trade him to a contender at the deadline.
Will it hurt our lotto odds? Absolutely. Does Chuck think that far ahead? Absolutely not. |

Joe would def improve our lottery chances. Have you seen him the last couple of years? I would love to see him at 1c/2c. |

That’s the other factor here. CF is on the hot seat to some degree and has his job to worry about. Like you said, he may throw some money at a past-his-prime free agent in hopes of icing another mediocre roster.
A smart GM would use that space to acquire draft picks in return for salary dumps at the deadline. |

Is he? I don’t think I saw him much last year. Seems like the one name left out there. I guess that’s the reason why |

If there is any good time (for the team) to be terrible, then as a fan, this is it for me.
Birds are exciting
Sixers are worth watching
World Cup of soccer later this year |

Apparently according to the many genius level posters on this site...all it takes is being the highest bidder. It's why we missed out on Panarin.

If we somehow get Bedard it will all be worth it. But hey, who am I kidding? Nothing good ever happens to this franchise.

I disagree. Imagine what would have happened if we lost only 1 more game last season... without those trivial points we would have shane Wright on our team now.
Wven if Torts milks a fee more wins out of this group it could be a big deal come draft day
Every point counts and every extra point we get will hurt our draft position
Torts will be great for next season but this season we should have run with yeo again, imo - Bob Habib
Imagine if the Kraken hadn't pulled the most blatant 3rd period tank in history during the final period of the final game of the season when they realized their 3 goal lead was going to cost them a draft slot.
The Kraken wanted the draft pick more than the Flyers who won 3 of 5 games at the end.

I already hate that franchise. Even the new teams are pissing on us.
As usual the flyers win meaningless games that only further sets us back.
Damn we were so close to a solid pick. Damn new jersey too!
Damn them all! |

According to Fletcher, this is what Ellis is mainly dealing with:
Psoas Syndrome
Psoas syndrome is an uncommon, and often misdiagnosed, condition that can appear as refractory lower back pain (pain that stays even after treatment) accompanied by other symptoms. The condition occurs when the psoas muscle—the long muscle (up to 16 inches) in your back—is injured. The psoas muscle is located in the lower lumbar region of the spine and extends through the pelvis to the femur. This muscle works by flexing the hip joint and lifting the upper leg towards the body. A common example of the movement created from this muscle is walking. Psoas syndrome is a very rare condition, but athletes are at higher risk. Psoas syndrome is best treated with physical exercises. - jd250
Let's assume it was originally misdiagnosed because they are the Flyers. When was it correctly diagnosed? Before or after the fans were sold on a rehab plan where they discovered it was a complex core muscle issue and he would be skating by July?
This guy is going to get paid $6.25 mill/yr to do yoga for the next 5 years or less if the Flyers trade him to somewhere he actually wants to play.
I understand he's injured but this sounds like something a doctor won't be the one saying he can play, it'll be him telling the doctor that the pain is gone away or is manageable. Players force trades all the time. He has leverage and never wanted to be in Philly.
