The best case

Couturier and Ellis are out long term. Tortorella has the desired effect on players like Farabee and Brink, and Hart’s performance stabilizes. However, the team is bad enough to sell pieces like van Riemsdyk at the deadline and realizes the necessity of cutting bait elsewhere. They finish tied for 29th place and win the draft lottery. Couturier and Ellis return at full strength to a Connor Bedard-led roster.

It’s all good. Chuck’s already put calls in to Seabrook and Lindros.

It will be incredibly depressing if they end up over 65 points.

Looks like the bookies and the Athletics are projecting the same thing though: a finish between 6-10th worst in the standings

Chiropractic has really helped a lot for me for both the migraines and the piriformis. To the point where a naproxen will do the trick before a long drive...(which is when it mostly rears (lol) its ugly head).

Also walking does a lot of positive things. My job has me sitting a lot so I need to get up and walk around for 10-15 minutes every few hours.

I just don’t see it. Did they forget the Flyers added no positives to the roster this off-season and are now minus Giroux for a full season. They’re bottom 3 bad to me. Easily.

I came to the same conclusion with my amateur projections. Of course, there are a high number of variables. The typical hard luck can lower that or big breakouts could define it. We’ll see. You never really know; they could finish higher than expected but then win the lottery thus picking higher than if they finished similar to last year.

Every year is a different roster with different circumstances and unique outcomes.

No, looks like a fascinating read. My dad probably read it.

I hope they get the foundation in place this year. I don’t get too worked up about finishing 3rd worst or 6th worst…it’s all about the ping pong balls. It’s more important that that the Flyers start to get some of these kids trajectory turned around and let the ping pong ball fall where they may. I don’t think they are any better then 27th-28th anyways. I’d also rather lose with Allison, Zamula, N Cates and Attard then guys like Brown, Anisamov, JVR and Braun. I hope Torts wasn’t just talking poop today when he said he’s going with the kids. They are going to lose…let’s at least start with guys that are maybe part of the solution going forward.

Not serious enough for surgery…but keeps him out for what will be 2 years…only in Philly

Are we sure it's not just that his parents are angry at Clarkie?

The rest of the supporting cast is a tough sell and a major reason why the Flyers rank so low. The team’s fourth line alone is expected to make the team two wins worse and is rated as the league’s worst. They’re a great asset for a tanking team, but that seems purely accidental for a team that had delusions of grandeur prior to losing Couturier for an extended period of time. Without him, the Flyers have the league’s worst center group — but with Hayes and Scott Laughton as the team’s one-two punch, you didn’t need to hear that from us.

On defence, the right side is anchored by two flawed defenders — neither of whom belong in a top-four role. DeAngelo was the team’s big get this offseason and while he’s strong offensively, his defense remains highly suspect, making him incapable of handling top-pair minutes. His best asset is his ability to quarterback a power play, and though he could potentially jolt the league’s worst unit, there’s a big difference between the skill level available to him on Phialdelphia’s top power play compared to Carolina’s. DeAngelo’s projected GSVA here is wildly overstated from playing for Carolina and it very likely drops with the Flyers.

Rasmus Ristolainen is a much bigger issue though. While he’s probably better than analytical models give him credit for, it’s not by much. Last year was arguably his best season at driving play, and he still got out-chanced heavily thanks to being weak at defending the blue line and exiting the zone. Being stapled to Sanheim likely boosted his value too.

---------------

But there was a bidding war for Deslauriers .....

Fletchers $10 mill combined defensemen that he absolutely had to have ... take a bow gentlemen. That much money not including the unholy amount of draft picks spent on those 2 (we'll leave Ellis out of this conversation) and they aren't even considered top 4 defensemen. It takes real skill to overpay like Fletch.

My worst nightmare is that Torts gets them playing over their heads and they finish in the 8-12 range in the lottery.

We all know there is no way they make the playoffs.

Out of the playoffs and no realistic chance at a top 3 pick would be devastating in the long run.

I just read that McCrossin and Raffa dropped their lawsuit. They are both still employed by the Flyers/Comcast, but it sounds like McCrossin’s is now a “senior advisor “, which I guess means he still collects a salary and benefits and gets to hang out with Clarkie. The Flyers also announced they hired a new head athletic trainer, and physical therapist/rehab coordinator who I guess take over McCrossin and Raffa’s jobs? I hope the both got BIG payouts.

I don’t know if anyone corrected this? Apparently the article I read was wrong. The lawsuit has not been dropped. The other info is correct.

Allowing that to happen is malpractice.

With literally nothing to play for it would be a middle finger to what's left of the fans.

3-6 has a palpable drop in odds.

Do whatever it takes to get extra bottom 15 picks.

Add those odds to your own.

This should have been put in to motion 2 years ago, but nope. Gotta contend. But we didn't really contend.

“I know that it’s in the same area as the last injury. I know that he’s been following the medical guidance of the doctors and our medical staff. I know over the course of the summer, he was improving,” Fletcher said. “But yet from time to time, he had some nerve irritation in his glutes. He was told that it was a normal part of the process, he continued to train. And at some point over the last week, things deteriorated, and he got to the point where he was not sleeping as well, and experiencing some pain.”

Maybe they need new dr’s.

Pain is the bodies way of telling you something is wrong.

There’s a humongous difference between soreness and pain.
