Lou fires trotz and then signs barzal to a max deal. All this is after Barry put barzal on the 3rd line so one has to wonder if this is why Barry was let go

Big fat meh on this contract. I would say this is a put up or shut up year for barzal(already did multiple times…) but I guess it doesn’t matter now

Barzal AAV is $9.15M

Lou so old and clueless he doesn't even realize Barzal turns the puck over too much

- eichiefs9

He does Barzal wanted 10 million but Lou deducted for the crisp passes to the other team

https://twitter.com/joeym...&t=0NMGBfiMa3fqHT21WqqatA Big sign for Isles.. the kid is an Elite talent and he will continue to improve .. hopefully.

My favorite part of these top 10 Barzal plays is number 2 where he goes by Chara like he is a traffic cone. good thing we signed Chara the following year and had him playing top 4 minutes..

It's really not much of an overpay. He was already making $7M and he's the best player they have. Maybe $8.5Mish was his "true value" but that isn't a bad deal
- eichiefs9

It’s a fair deal on both sides. The internet GMs were fearful Barzal wouldn’t sign and leave for nothing. That’s one thing we won’t have to read constantly thanks God.
Let me add with Lane as coach and Barry’s system not strangling Barzal offensively. He’s gonna score 130 points and it will be the bargain contract of the league

He wants to win here, has incredible talent, he just needs to put it together. I think he can but at this point I don’t think it’s a 72 million dollar contract. I’m not saying I dislike Barzal I love the kid, but it’s a little expensive for what he has shown. Him wanting to win here is a big plus and believe me both him and his agent highlighted that in negotiations.

Well this proves that anything Lou does is just magical. From this point forward anything Barzal does wrong in game, no matter how glaring, won’t be highlighted on this thread repeatedly like it was.

It's a big contact but to be fair he has not played with high end sure fire top line wings like other players and Barry's system was not the best for offensive type players. The organization has to provide the right talent and the coaches need to bring out the best in the players and Barzal needs to clean up his game as well.

He’s now getting paid like a player that makes other players around him better without ever really accomplishing that yet. Listen, I’m happy he’s signed but he’s getting paid just a little higher then he should be. I don’t think anyone disagrees with that and that’s what I’m saying.

Most of these players are overpaid including Barzal. You know how I feel about these contracts but paying someone like Barzal bothers me a little less. You cannot look at the numbers when you play in a Barry system. If the new coach opens thing up, Barzal is going to have to produce more.

Just read an article on Barzal’s new contract
(a bit to high AVV by the experts) however there was an interesting part at the end about the salary NHL salary cap moving forward.

‘With this re-signing, the Islanders now have $71.375 million dedicated to 17 players for the 2023-24 season, according to Cap Friendly. That season's salary cap will be $83.5 million. NHL teams have been guidance by the league that the cap is projected to rise as high as $88 million in 2024-25 and $92 million in 2025-26, as the NHL recovers from its COVID-19 pandemic financial hit.”

That’s a lot more than most we’re talking about last year.

Just my opinion and of course I’m a Richard and Lou is magical
