Literally took more effort to write this than it would to watch it on the sabers website - Dkos
Ironic how much effort it is taking right now just to find a working link.

Ratcliffe getting pushed off pucks so easily is annoying to see. Frost either an egregious turn over or a good play, figure it out |

Let's see if it gets better but haven't been impressed with Ratcliffe yet. |

Yup. Nice player but can’t stay healthy. Arizona is expecting far too much in return for a guy who misses about 25% of every season. - hereticpride
chuckles thought it would be a good idea to trade for a 30-year-old defenseman who misses about the same % of games throughout his career and is then stump on why his ass is on IR |

Flyers hockey is back. Funny thing is Torts isnt all that big on fighting. Wonder if the GM and advisors knew this prior to his hiring. Their version of tough to play against and Torts differ greatly. - furio16

I like speed, skill and finesse in hockey. When I watch video of games from the 80s, the players are slow even compared to the 90s. They look even slower with all the clutch and grab. Those things you mentioned all contributed but clutch and grab continued through the 90s and early 2000s. I have some bias against the 80s because it was 2 dynasties with only MTL and CGY winning outside of the dynasties. I don’t think the 80s was perfect but we’ll just have to disagree. - Minnyhock
I understand the allure of faster hockey as well as the need to remove the unnecessary hits and fights, but there was plenty of skill and finesse on display in the 80’s.
To me, the rules today allow players to build up more speed which has contributes to injuries. Add that to the hard plastic outer shell to all the pads now instead of the mostly soft pads hitting exposed areas of players being more painful and dangerous as well as composite sticks upping the puck velocity and being easier to swing over players instead of the keep your stick on the ice ethos back then and you don’t have more or less injuries, but a shift to more serious injuries when they do occur.
If you want to make hockey safer, allow some holding without the puck, bring back the red line and make two line passes illegal so you slow play down through the nuetral zone.
Bring back 80’s size goalie pads and see how effective the butterfly and hybrid is. Wood sticks that reduce slap shot speeds and make lifting the puck more difficult.
That’s all you need for a safer, tougher, interesting brand of hockey than the speed only dependent hockey we have today |
