Buffalo had more NHLers in their lineup so it's hard to judge anything here. I spent most of the game looking at numbers and saying "who the f is that guy?"

So did the play-by-play guys ... :-)

He's having a really strong camp so far, and looks way, way better than a year ago. But I think he's building more of a case to be higher in the recall pecking order than to make the team. Laczynski is still above him on the depth chart at present.
- bmeltzer

I was not thinking he was part of the equation at all for a spot or one of the top recalls. Though as you said and from all reports he looks real good. The chemistry with his brother apparently has also been good.

When is Ginning going to play in some games?

I was trying to watch the game through Torts eyes, looking for effort and "try" more so than anything.

They can't score, but I guess we can be happy with the defensive effort so far.

- MBFlyerfan

That is what its going to be this year, a better defensive team that will lose a lot of 3-1 games instead of 7-2 games. In the end, we can only hope some players are moved and some cap space and draft capital gained.

Great article from the hockey writers.

https://thehockeywriters....dicament-couturier-ellis/

It hurts to read, but its factual and paints a bleak picture financially for the Flyers. Its clear Fletcher is completely over his head and therefore at the first opportunity, the Flyers need a new GM and president that knows how to get out of the deep hole Fletcher has dug for this franchise.

- jd250

Fletcher spoke optimistically about seeing younger players take advantage of opportunities with open spots in the Philadelphia lineup this season. “We could have up to 10 players on our roster 25 years old and younger,” he told the media on Thursday. The majority of those players would play on entry-level contracts.

Laughable as how many were on the team last year? You added nothing. Who buys this BS? Clearly Comcast.

He is an absolutely beyond belief terrible GM.

It's quite depressing as many of us have been talking about them being in cap hell for over a year. It's an absolute nightmare combination. Bottom feeder and cap hell.

Do you honestly think that chuckles will be able to accomplish this?

With no end in sight. There really is no light at the end of this tunnel. All pretty much self inflicted avoidable mistakes.

Still waiting hoping for Frost...
I know he missed a year, what 2 years ago?
Still not seeing it in the kid.
A few nice passes here or there isn't the game I want from him.

Good offensive teams are going to slice this Provorov-DeAngelo pairing to pieces.

So basically, Fletcher is an incompetent buffoon. No news there.

Seriously? He's winning faceoffs, killing penalties, moving his feet, blocking shots, creating and getting scoring chances (two great chances last night) and you're "still not seeing it".

As an FYI, Flyers are thrilled with his camp so far. Only caveat is "Keep it up".

Bill, so what is your opinion, is there no way out like most of this board says, as it relates to cap and re-tooling. It would seem to me, if they Flyers play with better structure, the players raise their trade value, it is not all doom and gloom. You assume Ellis is done and you get that space, you have other players that are movable.

If they get a top 3 pick, Cutter is the real deal, can they clean it up in short order?

I'm just hoping for more than intangibles.
Would like to see him finish one of the 2 great chances.
Maybe my expectations are too high for him based on his Junior career.
Will temper my expectations to appreciate some nice passes, faceoff wins and scoring chances.

This is something I do not want to see to be honest. Not worth the risk to lose your "skill" players. Once in a while I get it.

Every team runs of if if if.

If someone gets hurt, if the goalie has a bad year, if the new guys don't produce.

Do you see the President/GM trying to fix this? If you do where do you see him addressing the what needs fixing.

I think the best case scenario that we have is to hope we are a high lottery pick and actually don't get bumped back or god forbid get the top pick and take Bedard (0 chance i'd say). At the deadline, you're dealing vets for every pick you can get and somehow in the offseason a team like zona takes Ellis' contract with a sweetener (we presumably have extra picks after the deadline). Let contracts expire and don't replace them with UFA signings. I think it could be a couple years even if all that came to pass. The main issue is that I don't really want Chuck managing all these critical moves.

Of note, Although the org I am sure is worried about STH and revenue etc, if you do what the Rangers did and be straight with your plan then execute it, I bet fans would understand and support it.

I think we can give the phony war over Frost a rest. He's going to get a real shot this season at center, and he will either do well and get an extension, or do poorly and get moved this offseason. It's nice he's playing a lot and apparently playing well in preseason, but the only true test will be how he produces in the regular season.

I am hoping the guy keeps it up but the competition is going to get tougher as we go. I am rooting for him.
