Just conjecture, but seems to me that it would be far easier to convince Muzzin that a substantial trip to Robidas Island would be preferred to a trade to a poop-hole team. He can volunteer to be injured until a week or two before the playoffs and be there for a supporting role if required. - winsix
Or maybe he likes playing hockey and he likes being a Maple Leaf

He is 33 and from a competitive standpoint he is still good.
I would imagine he would like to further his career and make some more money before retirement.

It’s easy to make fun of Bobo but good for him. I get that people are cynical about federal holidays and stuff but Bob made a good point about not just letting this whole thing slide as a one time deal last year. People are talking, information is available and those that want to pursue it will - Canada Cup
Who the hell makes fun of Bobo?
Just so I'm clear on this issue:
I don't think it should be a holiday. I think it should be a national day of education. And that means people going to work, and management making resources available AND allowing people to put aside their work for a while and do some reading and contemplating.

Anyone else listen to Leafs lunch on 1050? This Julia chick and her constant giggling is maddening and annoying as hell. - systemtool
I'm convinced that research shows that having a few awful voices in the mix on radio shows is paradoxically beneficial for listenership. How else to explain Coliaccovo's gratingly dumb giggling? How does Craig Button have an on-air broadcasting job? No disrespect to those living with speech impediments, but what's that all about?

If he likes the Leafs so much, why doesn't he sacrifice himself and his happyness for the team? HUH? - Scabeh
He likes BEING a Leaf.
It would be like if someone said to you if you like Canada so much why don’t you sacrifice yourself and your happiness for the country? HUH? Bad analogy of course since you make the country so much better and don’t have a MTC

I’ll go with the Commission on this one. Making it a holiday elevates it’s significance.

I participate in a conference call where there's a native guy who does a land acknowledgement. That's cool and all, but then everyone else, who are all white as a Leafs' away jersey, follow suit. Since everyone is in different places this takes forever, has nothing to do with the call, and I bet none of the white people on the call ever gave anything to natives and never will. It's hilarious.

I can't stand listening to Coliacovo - a guy with a grade 6 vocabulary - struggle to try to use big boy words.

There has to be a rationale behind it. There are plenty of former players who are articulate. It's baffling. - Zezel
Not so sure of this. It would be interesting to see a list of the most articulate NHL'ers though. Not referring to intellect, simply the level of education and the ability to put together a sentence without sayin "um" twenty times.

This is completely separate from anything the government has done to directly address the atrocities. So far, the federal government has paid over $3bn directly to the victims of the abuse.
Setting a federal statutory holiday was a specific recommendation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission chaired by Justice Murray Sinclair (who is indigenous) whose report blasted government policies.
Ignoring the Commission’s recommendation would actually have been a bad look. Again, I get the cynicism and I get it’s easy to blast everything but this one is pretty straightforward. The Commission felt it was important that what happened in those schools be remembered. It’s hard to see how acting on their recommendation doesn’t honour them. People can pay attention or not. - Canada Cup

I don't know that you are being asked to "give" something to indigenous people in this case. You are being asked to respect them and their treaties, and acknowledge the legacy of colonialism in our country's history and lands on which you are probably doing business.
