Yes, empty virtue signaling, that's correct. - Zezel
That's a very cynical look on it. There actually are reflective people in this world. Sure some people don't give a rats ass, fine. Other people, believe it or not, do not inhabit the headspace demonstrated in your original post. Just bcause you're not throwing money somewhere does not make a practice invalid. |

I'm more impressed by real service than lip service myself, however I know token rhetoric is fashionable these days. |

I participate in a conference call where there's a native guy who does a land acknowledgement. That's cool and all, but then everyone else, who are all white as a Leafs' away jersey, follow suit. Since everyone is in different places this takes forever, has nothing to do with the call, and I bet none of the white people on the call ever gave anything to natives and never will. It's hilarious. - Zezel
So in terms of today there’s nothing in the Truth and Reconciliation recommendations which deals specifically with residential schools about white guys going and giving money to natives. The they ask for changes in health care, Justice, education, and a request for a federal holiday. They wanted the story not to get swept away. There’s already a separate process for funding victims.
I agree that we don’t know how to deal with these issues, individually and to see good Canadians in a different light. I’m ok with some awkward posturing if that’s the cost of the issue staying somewhere in peoples heads. |

Gio was pretty great last season.
How good will he be this season? Who knows but no reason to think he can't do the same this season.
Norris Gio has been gone for 3 years now. - Santo_44
Yup, he was* and I think him signing at pretty much league min is fantastic!

And I don't mean this call happened today. It's every time. It's white people feeling good about themselves on a conference call, it's embarrassing. - Zezel
What's actually embarrassing is calling out people by their skin colour ("white people") and assuming they are all participating in empty virtue signaling. |
