And that proved to be an insanely bad choice by the coach.
Which is why Holl needs to be traded as soon as possible. Save Keefe from himself. - GreatGigInTheSky
You make it sound like Liljegren played solid defensively in game 2.
He didn’t, and the leafs needed to play a truly defensive player.
The Holl hatred is silly, nothing more. He’s a bang on 2 million dollar guy.
Leaf fans simply don’t like large d men who aren’t overly physical, Berg comes to mind. |

Peace River. My grandparents and uncle went up from Edmonton in a wagon pulled by Clydesdales in 1912. My mom was born a year later. My dad moved up in 1929 and got a job as town lawyer if he agreed to play on the hockey team. - Canada Cup
Damn that’s up there too, and to have had family there 110 years ago, that’s cool |

I'm not sure that Lilljegren isn't capable of being of decent partner for Rielly. Lilly took off when paired with Gio after the trade last season. I don't thin that was so much because Gio was 'great" - rather because Lilly wasn't babysitting Sandin - who's a d-zone nightmare.
the comparison should be between Rielly and Sandin - I think that's a pretty straight forward story. Saddling Lilly to Sandin caused him to play scared and pretty much play alone in his own zone.
to be clear - I don't hate Holl like some on here do. Holl did fine when Muzzin wasn't a corpse - particularly on the PK. WHomever plays with Sandin is going to be the weak link - because no one wants to come out and say that Sandin is dzone disaster. - BorjeFan4Ever
I’m sorry but a team that considers itself a cup contender is not going to play a guy who’s essentially a rookie on their top pairing. You need to be extremely strong defensively to earn the role of Rielly’s partner because the truth is Rielly is great offensively but only good defensively. |

We didn’t have a lot of money growing up, so my first leaf game was a preseason game. I remember how excited I was, but if they put lineups out like this it’s not even a leafs game.

Fan 1: Holl is the primary d man
Fan 2: Holl? Oh well
It’s a bad joke I know lol |

He was undeniably better than Holl. There's literal video evidence of that.

Sheldon Keefe says they are looking at using Mitchell Marner on defence at times during the regular season.
Have been experimenting throughout camp. Took some reps with Morgan Rielly today.

I don't think Holl has a future with the Leafs. He's 30 years old and it is clear that he is soft for a guy with size. Let me expand on that. He doesn't hit much, but coughs up the puck with regularity. While we have seen Sandin make some very poor choices and brainfarts in his own zone, he's 22 years old and has way more upside than Holl. There is very little chance that Holl ever gets re-signed by the Leafs beyond this season. For that reason alone, he should be traded to make some cap space. The sooner Dubas does it, the better. Benn and Mete are likely better than Holl and they play for minimum wage.

If you read the entire article available about this it’s to develop something to use when the leafs are looking for a late goal at even strength.
Safe to say you won’t see Marner playing D short handed… he’ll be stuck with his forward role there

Yeah, I personally think it's pretty dumb putting a F back on D. I just don't like it, even if the Leafs, the way they're structured, could actually pull it off.
Gotta wish upon a star that the Chychrun rumblings happening right now is him to the Leafs, and not someone else. |

Depends on price. The guy has yet to hit 70 games in one season so if he’s injury plagued this early in his career I can see him being a guy with talent who is nothing more than a headache |

My God, this place is filled with “well back in my day” types. What’s wrong with throwing Mitch back on D in certain situations every once in a while? He’s good defensively and if the team needs a boost try it. Remember when nobody pulled the goalie till there was only a minute left? If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. |

4F and 1D is pretty standard on a PP.
I’m not sure what the controversy is if the Leafs are considering doing it late in a game when trailing by a goal.
Other than because it’s the Leafs. |

Hey, if it means less Holl on the ice, I'll gladly support the idea.
But Marner is pretty great at trying too much and I don't wanna see that when he's last man back. |

Or whenever they want a little offensive push. Doesn’t have to be just late in the game. You see Keefe load up a line after a PK tossing JT or maybe Willie out with Matthews line. I could see something like this every once in a while |
