Sorry, Liljegren isn’t ready to be the defensive stability for Rielly. He got bumped by Holl in last years playoffs on the third pairing due to this.
I know you guys hate Holl but they’re not going to lean on a kid for the top pairing (Liljegren) nor lean on Holl to be the guy another kid plays with (Sandin) - Dozzer
I'm not suggesting Lilybust should be a long term solution on the 1st pairing this season -- but in short bursts playing easier minutes than the 2nd pair willl see? Yup.
I don't hate Holl but he cannot be the best shutdown guy on the 2nd pair -- he needs someone better than him to carry his play. Gio, at this stage of his career, is not a shutdown defender (never has been) and shouldn't be the best defender on any pairing.

Jay offense and defense were softer than Lionel Richie against the Bronx Bombers.

Holl needs to be traded. He brings very little to this team. Muzzin presents a much bigger problem at $5.625M for the next two seasons than Gio at $800K. Gio given limited minutes can be a very usefull part of this team. As to never has been, not so sure

Not sure, maybe when they are +39 and on the top pairing of a team playing over 20 minutes a game. (second best was TJ Brodie at +29 among defenders) Just maybe.
In case there is a dispute about the legitimacy of +/-, top all time leaders are Larry Robinson, Bobby Orr and Ray Bourque.

really? they're giving days off for it now?
Sort of ironic. They have a day that they have set us aside for us whiteys to remember we are living on land that was originally settled by natives. They feel that we need truth and reconciliation for this. so they give US a day off, |

There's a great article in the Athletic - written by Gare Joyce - about abuse of kids playing on a hockey team at a residential school.
Weirdly, the only way you can find it is through a link on the New York Times website.
I've sent the Athletic an email, which I'm sure they will read by mid-November. |

If you search "Gare Joyce" in the Athletic, it's the first story to come up (written two days ago).
Well worth your 10 minutes to read.

Holl is a $2M RD on the last year of his contract. He does a moderately ok job when he’s paired with someone good and doesn’t try to do too much. He tends to play beyond himself when he’s with someone who’s not that dependable. Holl and good Muzzin were a good pairing and Holl did a decent job. Holl and bad Muzzin were ungood, as Holl tends to run around and play beyond himself.
There’s a reason he’s on the PK and out at the end of the game. |

Or people could use the time to learn about the issues. For starters, it’s specifically about the residential school abuse issue. As someone said, education was part of the problem, education can be part of the solution.

The main reason is that he is poop. Lots of poop defenders available for league minimum wage. On the plus he is a RHD and he exists, on the negative, he is poop and tends to cough up the puck in his own zone. His tendency to cough up the puck and the timing of those gaffs are only rivalled by Jake.

Interesting approach to trying to hold onto a lead at the end of a game - put out what you know is a poop player |

yes, I'm sure that will happen. I think almost everyone will be using their day off to learn about it. I hear there are impromptu discussion groups popping up just for today. |

Except that he is usually out as in playing at the end of the game. Teams usually use the same players to defend the lead at the game that they do on their PK.

You’re right. You can note the significance of the issue by declaring a national holiday. You can also provide opportunities to learn but if people don’t give a poop, they won’t bother look at what happened. Two quick reads about the issue were shared on here. |

A few quick points:
- I'm in the office today. We have been instructed to keep emails and meetings to a bare minimum, and instead spend the day learning. They've done a pretty good job of providing resources.
- It's the same structure as Remembrance Day. Interesting note: the vast majority of veterans groups do NOT want Remembrance Day to be a day off - they most certainly want the kids in schools, so that they can learn about the horrors and sacrifices of war.
- I'll always remember what they said about Martin Luther King Day, when it was first established: "It's a day ON, not a day OFF."
It's a disturbing part of our history, which is why it's so important to learn about it.
Peace, brothers. |
