Furthermore on pre-season being prep for the season, it really surprises me that they haven't taken a different approach and at least tried to get some chemistry going in pre-season this year. For all the talk of the importance of a strong start, this seems completely counter intuitive. It's not like we have any real higher end prospects. Pipeline is quite bare with nothing really coming. Either this group is going to do well and make playoffs, or it's bust. So can't really say it's about battles - everyone who should be on the big club will be (and more with the injuries already). If you did have a few guys you wanted a better look at, wouldn't you want to see if those guys can gel with the guys that will be on the team ... not a bunch of guys pre-destined for abby?
Even the announcers sounded dejected last night, and they're typically pretty homer or ... or at least work to find some bright side. There should be some pride to wearing the colours and the jersey. Getting trounced by virtanen and the oilers, pre-season or not, is not a good look. Going into a game saying we're going to lose, or they're going to be in tough against this lineup. I mean I know competitive spirit is supposed to take over, but psychologically they can't be invincible to all that is said ahead of the game. As soon as the puck starts to go in against you, it's hard not to think well ... this is what was supposed to happen. To me, you're just setting up your team for failure. Losing usually breeds losing, and winning can (not always but can) be contagious. |

Season is lost, it's all over, no sense even watching, and there was so much hope going into preseason.
How about those Bluejays and Mariners, |

I mean whatever, if blanket statements like that make you feel witty & funny do your thing.
I was just giving an opinion on something going on right now. If you'd rather discuss what we think might happen at trade deadline and end of season ... by all means. Those topics haven't had much debate to-date |

You obviously never read this.

Danny DeKeyser is the only name of note that was cut today.
If you assume that the top 5 spots are secure:
Hughes, OEL, Myers, Rathbone and Schenn.
I suppose this means that the final D spot is down to:
Burroughs
Dermott
Poolman
Wolanin

I just think all the print about meaningless preseason games is over blown. I don't care if you wish to discuss TDL, players contracts, season is lost, whatever.
The constant doom and gloom will be responded with witty and funny, it's what happens here, don't take sarcasm personally. |

Only a fool thinks the preseason is meaningless. Look how Petey started after missing camp/preseason. How else do you figure out chemistry with new players like Kuzemenko so you have a leg up for game 1 of the season? Cuts??

Neither think preseason is meaningless. They wouldn't have jobs in the NHL if they did. |

Well you are far too complimentary of yourself - witty and funny was meant in jest. Pretty easy to blanket every critique (or at least the ones you don't agree with) as doom and gloom.
Anyway, Sportsnet seems to think it's a bit worrisome at least. Recall last year the same dialogue and 'experts' saying Van would not be good. Sometimes they get it right I guess.

got it, I will try harder to be more negative regarding the canucks and really embrace what the sportsnet experts have to say.
Canucks will be lucky to get 90pts this season, Horvat should be traded not worth 7 a year, Bruce should be fired for icing an AHL squad to play against Virtanen, Mcdavid and Driasatl and Kane |
