after Jan. 1 in 2021-22.
From that point on, Jack Campbell, Petr Mrazek and Erik Kallgren combined for an .887 save percentage (27th in the league) and an .891 at even strength (32nd). Individually, their goals saved above expected were as follows. Kallgren at minus-7.49 in 14 games; Mrazek at minus-9.54 in 17; and Campbell at minus-21.1.

So Dom's model in the Athletic predicts the Leafs to win it all this year.
Nobody - and I mean franking nobody - makes fun of Dom's models and how they overly favour the Leafs.
But I have to give the guy credit - here's his results on overall predictions for the past few years:
"In 2016-17 the Pittsburgh Penguins were the preseason favourite to win it all according to this model — and they did. That was the first season of the model’s existence and though it’s undergone some changes under the hood since, the chief principle remains the same.
The goal — utilize a total value stat to project every player’s performance for the season and add up those values for every team to estimate how strong each team will be.
It’s far from perfect — each year we go into where exactly it might be wrong with previews, and where it went wrong with a year-end review — but at the top, the model does have a very strong track record.
After Pittsburgh came Washington in 2017-18 (ranked second), Tampa Bay in 2019-20 (ranked first), Tampa Bay in 2020-21 (ranked second), and Colorado in 2021-22 (ranked first). That’s a top-two team according to the model winning it all in five of six seasons."
You have to admit - that's pretty franking accurate.

I don’t really remember leafs going on a big losing streak during all this. Leafs just kept winning despite terrible tending.
I still think the leafs will be a top team in the league even if their goalies are in the bottom half. |

People make fun of every prediction stuff, it'll never be accurate...his model gives us the closest thing we have in an unpredictable sport.
Also his model values stars highly which what makes a good team a great team.

Ongoing discussions between the Stars and Jason Robertson. Seems like a major shift is going to have to occur for Robertson to start the season in Dallas. Still time to get something done. |

Look at Colorado. Win the Cup with a so-so goalie who wants to get paid so they bring in some other guy.
Leafs add more defensive capacity in their forward group - Jarnrok, NAK, ZAR. Murray/Samsonov have a long way to go to be worse than second half of what we had last year and have potential to be much better. |

I remember his model giving the Habs 1% chance of winning 4 games against the Leafs in the 2020 playoffs.

For the Leafs? They’re done adding upfront. They’re dumping bodies (in a non Lou kind of way, of course) |

Habs fans - always living in the past.
Most cups in history, 1993, now 2020 & of course as you all love to chant at Leaf fans "Siiiiiixty - Seven"!!
When the Leafs win a cup before Montreal, Leaf fans will chant "Nineteeeeeen Ninetyyyyy Threeeee" at you.
It will sound insanely silly and dumb but Leaf Nation will do it because it's not the passion, it's the pure insanity that unites us all.

I came up with a model that predicts one of the best teams in the standings recently will win the championship. I think I will have a good success rate in all sports. |

Na baby I'm all about the future. Me and Doc Brown have the Delorean at 87 and we are just about to hit 88 and flash forward to next summer when the parade downtown Toronto is happening with the cup.
Whoa - I this I just had a Zezel out of body experience and documented it here!
Side note did everyone here know the Delorean was making a come back?
Seems there were new models being developed for years that never came to fruition but now they are bringing out the latest design - the all electric high performance 4 door sports coupe - the Alpha 5.

Elon is going to be so butthurt.
And it is going to be a rad parade. There'll be a few of them soon. Jays, couple of Leaf parades. Argos will have a small gathering.
