If we see these players as worthless, what do you think the other GM's think of these players? - LAHawk
I think worthless is a steep word.
Teams are always hunting for those valuable role players come playoff time. bottom 6 Fs, D men who can fill a spot, eat up minutes......so while I am not overly enamored with the Hawks roster and I get it's intentional, I think KD if he wanted to could deal a few guys outside of 19/88 and get back something of value.
I am not a Murphy fan by any stretch but with a 4 aav cap hit, and still a few years out, does he become attractive to a contending team looking for a bottom 4 D man? |

On the flip side the more games Kane plays here, the less his prorated cap hit. Hawks play their 41st game in early January. At that point Kane's prorated cap hit is 5.25M. Half retained by the Hawks and 1/4 retained by a 3rd party means the acquiring team needs 1.3M in accumulated cap space. If a team doesn't have that much, they send back a 2M dollar or so salary which would be prorated at the time at 1M.
The numbers could always be worked out. The key to a Kane trade is to have multiple suitors driving up KD's asking price. - boilermaker100
The issue with Kane is the full NMC...so KD could petition all 32 NHL clubs to put together offers but if Kane is hell bent on going to the Rangers....nothing KD can do about it, which limits what he can get back.
The retained salary/prorated salary is an excellent point. Again, i think Kane will go but nobody knows when.....young family, if the hawks are sucking (which they should) and he's getting frustrated not gelling with new guys with far less talent....could expedite things. I wont be shocked if we see 19/88 together soon to increase value for both...especially Toews. |

Agreed 100%....I don't think he needs to retain for Murphy assuming he doesn't blow himself between now and the deadline. McCabe can be kept to be the veteran to help guide the young kids with Jones, and help get the Hawks to the floor. I don't see a reason to keep both. You can always sign a cheap veteran every offseason to plug a hole if you are nervous about rushing up a kid on the back end who isn't ready yet...see Johnson. |

1. 1st, 5 minutes
2. At least 5
3. I think so, playing back to back nights
4. I think they get one tonight on the PP at some point
5. I'll go the opener vs Detroit
6. Bears.....washington is dog crap. I can't believe Carson Wentz still starts in this league. |

Agreed. Actually wish Murphy + (? Lafferty/other) to exchange draft choices. Opportunity to select first tier prospects is the objective. If that turns out to be top 12, maybe that #12 is not going to be available or cost prohibitive. Replacing a Kane + Toews not as likely with tier II and lower prospects. |

Agreed....I just don't see anyone on the opening night roster tonight. except for maybe Seth Jones, who will still be on this team when they climb out of this rebuilding abyss.
So far that reason alone, sell high when you can. |

The next little guy after Bedard I want the Blackhawks to draft in th eerily 3rd:
Billy Whitelaw
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJ7AEPdzIUw - wiz1901
Whitelaw is an 05 and will be in the 2023 draft.... On a real good USHL Youngstown team that has 4 kids already drafted and with him 05 Dman Strathman and 04 goalie Fowler sure to be drafted the group is gonna make some noise.
Whitelaw is only 5ft 9 in 172 lb but he plays much bigger. Kid gets to the middle of the ice and is strong on the puck. Played with Celebrini (eligible for the 2024 draft and plays with the Steel this yr) and Cole Eiserman last yr at SSM.
Whitelaw was with the US Hlinka team last yr and sure to be with the USA U-18 WJC squad this yr. ....... Long way to go but you think Whitelaw lasts until rd 3 in 2023, Wiz?

Better not have Strome out there ar same time.
Chicago East (coast)
Thinking outside the box
Offer S Jones for Samuelson (Ulfie's kid) on Buffalo. Offer to pay half S Jones contract and half the salary cap hit for half the remainder of his contract.
Hockeybuzz report today reports Samuelson has moved to their top pair with Dahlin.
If I was Buffalo, I'd pass. |

Samuelson just signed a seven year contract today, doubt they would consider trading him

I saw that.
I doubt they make the trade too. As I said. Just wanted ti make sure no one thought this is a crazy idea. A veteran for big towering redwood rookie. When he was drafted, I openly said, watch this kid get stapled to an offensive generator and be a long time fixture. Samuelson has his dad who can help quick transition to success on NHL stage through advice and instruction on ice and mental preparation. I wonder if his skating improved since drafted from Michigan collegiate. |

On radio
The Avalanche Stanley Cuo rings valued at $6500. The announcers said the Avslanche logo and the Cup (or snow?) Was same color.
I would think Blackhawks Cup ring if it has Indian Blackhawk colors- is beautiful |

Seems like last week Kaner was putting that GWG into the net in Game 6 a short 12 years ago to win the first Cup of what would be an amazing run for the Hawks. Damn it was so much fun...those battles with the CaSucks, the 13 run, 15 with Keith...the near miss in 2014 which would have given the Hawks their 3 in a row.
If the Hawks had a legit L2-C in 2014, the Cup is an easy run. Hawks brass were dumb and arrogant for thinking Mike Handzus could Center a 2nd line in the post season. |

Let's try this again.
Best scenario for the Hawks in the 2023 draft.
Tampa Bay is a bubble team barely missing the playoffs and gets the #16 pick. They do not move up in the lottery.
Davidson somehow finagles the Dallas pick from the Rangers in a Kane trade. Maybe Kane waives for 3 contenders so there is a bidding war. Or maybe there are conditions on the trade such as Hawks get the Rangers own first unless the Rangers win the Cup. If so, then Hawks get the Dallas pick. NYR go all the way and Dallas misses the playoffs gets the 13th pick and also does not move up in the lottery.
Hawks make a draft day trade and pick up a 1st from a cap strapped team - Edmonton for example - to take on salary. Let's say that's pick #29.
Hawks earn a top 3 of their own due to their dismal play this season.
So Hawks have #2, #13, #16, #29 in next summer's draft. We can dream can't we? - boilermaker100
This is NOT a far fetched scenario... |
