Yes... and it sucks. Ask any Wings fan about the lottery draft. We had teams getting higher picks than us with better records (Rangers, etc..). It's taken Yzerman like 3+ years to clean up the dumpster fire that Ken Holland left. And we never got a #1 pick for the last 6 years when the Wings were bad. And none of our top 10 picks are superstars / super elite franchise players you need to win championship (Ovechkin, Crosby, Kucherov, etc... ).

Luckily the Detroit scouts & Yzerman did pick some very good players in Seider and Raymond who still have a very high ceiling and are young. And our prospect pool is now very deep... the rebuild to get there is not fun. You just have to ride it out.... but I feel your pain. The Wings fans miss the glory years too when the team was stocked with star players.

This is the year Arizona finally wins the draft lottery. San Jose and Montreal will draft #2 and #3, Chicago will draft #4.

The 5-2 loss to Colorado went better as expected. The PK is hot garbage, but the team played better than expected otherwise. That’s not to say the Hawks played well, rather they just played less terrible than expected.

I think Richardson can tighten things up, by Christmas the team should only be losing games 4-2.

I won't go into the negatives, here were my positives:

Looking at TOI, Richardson spread it out evenly. No one was under 11 minutes. Kane led with only (for him 17:41, Toews only had 14.51) Maybe that was because the game was in Denver, front end of a back to back, but since this is a tank/see how the kids do year, glad to see he is not chasing wins. Also, no line-blending.

Thought Kurashev had his best game as a Hawk

Hope Toews plays like game one up until he is traded, he would up his value considerably.

The one mistake I thought Richardson did make was after Jones had his 3 minute shift, the hawks got a power play and Jones went right back out there, That was the play that Kane said WTF when jones wasn't in the zone. Jones was gassed.

I wasn't able to watch the game last night but, from looking at the box score, the Hawks absolutely dominated at the dot.

All I saw was the highlights, but nice to see the goals were scored by guys moving toward the net (and relatively close to it).

MacKinnon's line dominated, Makar on the ice did Makar things. Penalties occurred because Colorado is faster, not a surprise. The defense, even though playing 2 rookies , the ancient J.Johnson, Murphy, and Tinordi looked way better and more structured than last year.

So bascially the same lineup tonight, I assume. Vlasic out day to day with an injury so probably the same 6 D. Maybe R. Johnson slots in for Khaira or Robinson. Stalock most likely in goal.

You are probably right. Watched the Vegas/Kings game, Vegas put up 51 shots on the Kings. Score only close because Quick was outstanding. Vegas home opener. Another game in the lions den for the Hawks.

I thought Roos had a nice game. Similar to what we saw of Galvas at times last season.

The Hawks weren't horrid. Can't overcome that big a disparity in talent very often.

It did but, and i know many are tired of hearing it, but Murphy is always a step slow be it physically and mentally. No way they trade him, he's so easy to get off his spot. Regula had a really nice game, Seth looks so hacky and indecisve out there last night. Roos wasn't bad, Johnson would cover for 5 whichever side he was going to decide to play defense on. 1 down 81 to go.

Murphy is a steaming pile of crap on skates. First goal against, he chased his guy out of his position on the kill, then gets beat in front of net, followed up by a lazy tripping penalty that resulted in another goal.

I don't get the love for this guy at all. If they can get a decent a pick 2nd or 3rd come trade deadline when teams are stupid trying to sure up rosters for a cup run...please do it.

Fact this guy wears a letter is a crime.

Outside of a few guys they looked to be solid positionally. Avs are just a wagon. No way to combat that like going into a gun fight armed with a fork. Gods speed.

Expect a similar outcome tonight as Vegas has their home opener.

All to be expected. They played hard and for the most part didn't seem like the clown car that was the JC style.

I agree Murphy is slow.

I thought Regula had a rough game, Colorado's forecheck made him very indecisive and slow in moving the puck causing several turnovers.

You must mean Tinordi covering up for Murphy. Johnson was paired with Jones, Tinordi was paired with Murphy.

HAHAHAHA

I agree....they played hard, and were somewhat competitive. Just when the refs start letting the more incidental stuff go....will the Hawks have enough fire power to score 5 on 5?

That's not good.

Smaller guys in general get nicked up from the collision with the fast giants.

I am looking forward to seeing the players who went to the Makar McKinnon ice Capades last night against Knights...I bet the game will seem slower.

Since I am in LA, I had to watch via my Florida home cable link, and I had the TNT audio on, and I was quick impressed with all seven guys in the booths for their knowledge, conversation, non-homerness and super impressive conveyance of the game.

Not giving up a touchdown and putting two goals on the board was a moral victory considering the opponent. I'll take good effort and structure from a developing team over the country club attitude of established players that I witnessed in the last few years of Q's reign.

Is there anything more frustrating than watching your team look like they cold make a push for the playoffs one week, and then mail it in every other night for two weeks?

I wonder how much better he would be if he were 100%. I cut players some slack when there is a real injury history. The real crime is signing him to that deal if they know he has the injury history. The buyout might still be doable if they are projected to be doing nothing three seasons from now, assuming he's not languishing on LTIR at season's end: https://www.capfriendly.c...-calculator/connor-murphy

It looked liked they intentionally were more aggressive with Murphy (because he lacks puck handling and skating skills) and Regula. I am sure Regula will need time to adjust to the speed of the NHL game. Last night he faced the best. Showed some panic, but that is to be expected.

It's game 1.....if he were banged up enough he shouldn't be playing. If they take the ice this early in the year, I disagree about cutting them slack.

He's bad far more than good as a Hawk. He either gets walked, or goes running out of position, or makes a horrible read in the neutral zone all exposing what he is...and that is a bottom 2nd pair D man on a fringe contender....and likely a high 3rd pairing D man on a true cup contender like Colorado or Tampa.

I 100% agree with you on the deal....but maybe somebody sees him in a different light and with a raising cap ceiling take a flier on him this spring. I can only hope...otherwise I'll just wait until he blows himself up again and its out with another concussion.

Sure he's a great guy, but as a hockey player...hard pass.
