I haven't seen much talk about Samuelsson - he and Dahlin were easily the two best defensemen. If you didn't know any better you would think that he has been in the league for 10 years. That contract is going to be a steal. - Slump Buster

My biggest problem last night, how soft Mittlestadt is. Guys gotta go. Cant have all these softies. Need a banger up front for these kids.
Dahlin should not be the one standing up for the forwards every time. (Dahlin got big over the off-season) He looked huge last night.

I don't see how you could single him out as being any softer than just about any forward. We aren't a banging team. I actually thought Mitts was one of our better forwards last night. He actually made a nice play on the play where he got the penalty - someone made a terrible mistake at center ice and he was the last guy back on a potential 2 on 1. He set both Tallness and Tuch up for glorious chances but neither could convert.

I single him out cause he's probably the softest. I didn't think he had a bad game, talent is there. Made a couple nice plays. We just wont win any tough games with the amount of softness on this team.
Hes just to weak to really do anything in this league. and clearly he wont put the time in to get stronger.
I was one his biggest advocators last year saying to give him some more time, but now after the talent influx from the draft he can be moved. His value is low though so wont be moving on till at least the deadline |

The rumors of Lyubushkin having a bad game are just flat out wrong. He played 2:46 of PK that were excellent. He was a +2 in his 13:15 of even strength time (one of them from an ENG). He had a solid 3rd pair night.
The top line was bad, but I will say Ottawa plays a tough 4th line just like we do. They're jammers just designed to F up 1st lines. Jeff Skinner - while creating his usual offensive chances - made two brutal giveaways that lead to breaks. Neither in the net though. I don't think the line got caved in though. They had chances throughout the game. If you want to see a 1st line that got caved in by a 4th, look at what happened to DeBrincat, Giroux, and Norris going against Okposo, Asplund, and Z. And, that's with both Z and Asplund missing grade A scoring chances. They thoroughly outplayed Ottawa's top line. Not even close.
Sammy blocked one shot in the "lower abdominal" region and stayed on the ice until he had a proper change opportunity. Earning his money already. I wouldn't split him and Dahlin up for anything.
Power made bad decisions all night. S'ok, I'm done criticizing teenage rookie defensemen. It's just too hard of a position to play.
Vic's 1st ENG was a nice play and done at an important time. Good for him, and he was blessed by the Hockey Gods with a 2nd for his hard work. 35 this year if he stays healthy.
Who, if anyone, comes out of the lineup tomorrow for Vinnie? If anyone I would say Mitts, but I'm happy with the lineup for now. I also wouldn't have a problem with Power watching a game if the coaching staff thinks it's the right move. |

People need to recognize Rasmus Dahlin is tough. He is a physical player besides everything else he brings. I have zero problem with our 22 year old 6'3" 200+lbs defenseman deciding he is a poop kicker. Amen, I say. |

Keep playing him and hope he starts to impress...maybe his value goes up enough to be included as a piece of a trade deal.
Of course, the double edge sword is that if he shows improvement, people will want to retain him, lol. |

I don't think Power needs to watch, Joker has been god awful so having him with a growing rookie D is not a good decision. Power is going to make mistakes, he needs to play through them. He wont learn form the press box.
I don't think you play Vinnie yet after one game, let the kids play at least a few games. Took JJ all preseason and the whole first to finally look good, his first period was not good

Our toughness comes from our back end. I'm not sure I agree with you. Time will tell though. I need to see them beat the Bruins in the arena this year. I'm so sick of them running our barn.

I don't have a problem with it at all, but when there is an altercation he is always involved as we don't have anyone else, he got cross checked in the face for it last year. I don't want him hurt

Solid post.
I'm not expecting any changes...let them work it out on ice...grow and improve...good development opportunities |

That's the trap here. With the next wave of forwards coming, they can't just keep everyone. Need a few hockey trades....over the next 2 years.

I can't see Vinnie coming in for anyone at this point. I think that those of you hating on Mitts had already decided to hate on him as he was alright last night.
What year is this where people are still talking about team toughness? There are the occasional dust-ups where the players will hug each other for a few seconds and then go to the bench. That's all that a player needs to do anymore.

Can't change after 1 game, have to give some time to see what chemistry starts to happen or not happen. |

Oh sure, I agree with all the lineup should not change. Just posing the question. I do, however, expect Vinnie to play on the West Coast trip. |

Not sure why it's even being mentioned after a win. Donnie isn't a big line shuffler to begin with.
Top line was worse than the second pair D. That's the line I'm concerned with, just don't like those three together.

After the game he played, Samuelson doesn’t deserve to be the lone Sabre that was a minus player. |
