Before I moved to Hamburg I had Directv and Spectrum for my Internet and it was good. Always heard people complain but never had a problem. Moved to Hamburg and the House was already set up for Fios so I switched and Bundled. Bad mistake - Buff36
What do you use for wifi? You can have the best internet in the world and it won't matter if your wifi sucks.

faster version of Denis Hamel - homiedclown
Faster Jody Gage? I'd still give him a chance over a retread like Jimmy Vesey. I think Hamel might have played in the league if he didn't have that terrible knee injury. He had 8 goals in 41 games before the injury.

Yeah, I think my Router is outdated. It's a Generation 4 from the date on it. |

I couldn't find any information on that router but I am going to go out on a limb and say that it is your problem, which is good news. Just last month a friend of my wife's had the exact same issue. They live in one of those beautiful 3 story houses downtown. They were actually going to drop Spectrum for FIOS because they had the same kind of issues. I had just switched from Google Wifi to a corporate-level wifi system so I had a Wifi and 2 pucks laying around so I let her use them. They couldn't believe the difference - everything worked the first time in every single room of the house.
Google wifi is actually very much like what you would have in a large space (office, sporting event, etc). There are a series of points around the building that talk to each other. As you move through the building you are seamlessly handed off to the best point (you are unaware of this). Google wifi is actually very good - I only got rid of it as I had very special needs (I am in IT). Just for kicks I tried to break it by streaming five 4k movies at the same time - I couldn't do it.

Chiefs D getting banged up and Bills getting healthier. Chiefs down starting corner and a number two corner. Depth d lineman too. Dolphins and Ravens were lucky Davis wasn’t Davis. Nobody can cover him. Didn’t matter if it was one on one, 7 on 7 or 11 on 11. And I’m not saying he was getting open, I mean like nobody within 10 yards of him wide open. Nobody can cover Diggs on post flag either. I’ll be 👀 for that on Sundee. |

I have optimum and my internet used to be really bad until I ditched their modem/router (that they charged me rent on). I bought my own modem and the google nest. It’s been like lightning since. I have the nest with two remotes, covers my entire house. Pretty sure Costco sells the google nest now with 3 remotes for less than what I paid for my system. Def worth the investment. |

You really can't go wrong with any of the major brands. I can't speak to Asus but the nice thing about the google router is that it only takes 10 minutes to set up and you control it right from an app on your phone (speed tests, puck placement, guest network, etc). Its a nice option for people that want to keep it as simple as possible.

I'd try just moving the router to a more central location in the open before you go spending money. And try the difference between 2.4 and 5Ghz if your router has both. 2.4Ghz is a little slower but more easily penetrates walls and other obstacles. |

Fair point. I think that's the problem with having a single point - you really can't centralize. There is just such a big jump in performance between the non-mesh and mesh that it just doesn't seem worth it in this day and age to not have something that is head-and-shoulders better than the old way of doing it.

One other note. If you can, get something that does Wifi6. It isn't a deal breaker if the device doesn't as very few devices other than newer phones support it.

Yeah, when I first moved in they had it in the basement and then I moved it to my 1st floor. Was working fine, but the last couple months have been really bad. But I did add a TV out on my Back deck and put a new system in my basement. |

What do you do in IT, if you're comfortable sharing?
I also work in IT (change management, development, and systems analysis), and I haven't had a need yet for a beefed up version of a rudimentary Fios home setup. |

Software development in general, but the last few years have been working with Microsoft technologies / sharepoint. I am a bit of a geek with this stuff. If your setup works then absolutely stay with it. Every house and situation is different. I don't claim to be an expert with routers but I do have a ton of experience helping out friends and friends of friends. In all my years I've never seen it be the ISP and almost every time a switch to mesh made all the difference. |

I've also had (borat voice) great success with a wifi extender. I have a raised ranch and the modem/router is at one end of the house. Adding the wifi extender was a game changer for signal in the basement and the far end of the house |

They are definitely a step in the right direction if distance is the issue and won't help at all of it isn't. A mesh system is really kind of like an intelligent (and beefier) set of extenders. Mesh is 10 times better but also 3 times the price of an extender. |
