Wow, Sanheim signed for 8 years, its clear he is part of the core going forward. You cant' 5 defenseman over $5M per can you? This could mean Ellis is done for his career and the Flyers know it. If not however, I have to think its between DeAngelo and Provorov as the player moving out, and I think DeAngelo has the leg up given up the skillset he has on the PP and the attitude he plays with.
- jd250

If the Flyers favor Deangelo over Provorov as you suggest. Based on who knows what. That would just be further evidence of their incompetence.

Burns in 37 years old and doesn't play defense, though he's a big minutes eater. In the end the Flyers don't need 27 year old players at this stage.
- jd250

Burns plays defense although not a stalwart. He is a better defender than DeAngelo

In a vacuum, it's a fair deal for how good he is and is impending UFA status. More value than any of the other big contracts Chuck has signed since he got here.

But it's just not smart for a team in this kind of situation to be handing out long-term deals to anybody that isn't an elite, fundamental building block.

Hopefully this means they have some kind of plan to get rid of Ellis and/or Risto. Otherwise they'd better hope the cap shoots up dramatically soon.

- Tomahawk

I think its a strong possibility this signing indicates Ellis is done for good, and I can't see Risto going anywhere at that price and term. I think Provorov is on the hot seat.

But he is 37, how long realistically can he keep this up. DeAngelo is very good on the PP and the Flyers need this badly.

I thought it was interesting to see last night on The Standard how much Torts was driving the conversation, while Fletcher just stared a lot. I'm sure Fletcher spoke quite a bit but a lot was edited out.

Showed me that Fletcher isn't in charge. He is essentially the teams press secretary.

I would think aside from being overpaid just about every player on this team would rather be somewhere else.

These guys are going to get poop on for 80 games through little fault of their own. What GM in their right mind puts a team together like this?

- hereticpride

Well, I think Sanheim wants to be here. Fletcher's team building has been horrendous no doubt. Why sign Tony D if you extend Sanheim. No clue. It's not like Tony D makes them a playoff contender because he is a better PP Qb. They have a glut of LHD who you can argue can play in the NHL. Maybe not top pair, but still NHL quality- Provy, Sanheim, Zamula, and York. Just bad cap mgmt. A hallmark trait of the Fletcher era.

IP and TS are the only 2 of tonights 6 d men that should be here going forward. Zamula has upside
- THE BLACK HAND

Well Ellis and Risto are unmoveable so that thought process doesn’t really matter here. You can get assets for those two guys, 1 should be moved

WTF is wrong with this Franchise!!! 8 years??? 8 friggin years!!! $50 million on Softie Sandie 😔

Hard to support this team. Growing up in Toronto being a Flyers fan wasn't easy. I've been in fights just for wearing this sweater, literally bled to be a fan of this team. I used to watch 70+ Flyers games per season. Last year, under 30. This year, I might watch a few games. I'm a fan of Hockey, so I'll spend my time watching teams that take this sport seriously.

The fact that Fletcher was allowed to make this deal shows you how lost this franchise is.

- dubc55

I’m actually in the middle of this one. I think both term and AVV is a bit high on both sides, but as another commenter suggested this is Fletchers MO. If Sanheim can play the way he did to finish last year in the last 30 games or so then he can be an asset. Hopefully they take the training wheels off and let his take off with puck and use his skating to an advantage. Let the kid use his strengths, Yes he’s soft in his game but he did improve in his own end using a very active stick and his size a bit better as the season went on. Is interesting that they are locking up a bunch of guys that make up a team that really hasn’t been very good for a while now.

We'll see. Burns is a significantly better player than DeAngelo.

I don't know anything for sure, but did you happen to notice in last night's episode of The Standard how Torts and I think Shaw or Rocky?, spoke about DeAngelo versus Provorov? Torts was I thought very dismissive of Provorov playing on the PP, and instead was touting Zamula who apparently he really likes. I think Zamula can be another player that makes Provorov expendable. I mean, lets face it, Provorov would have value right now to recoup assets if the Flyers wanted to.

You literally took my response. In a vacuum it's a good deal, but when looking at it at the current situation it doesn't make sense. The only way it could make sense is if the Flyers have a plan...

And the Flyers organization has not earned the trust to hope they have a plan that will work.

They are throwing out contracts like they just won a Stanley Cup and want to keep the core together, but instead they are keeping what is proven that doesn't work together with the hope good luck will come around.

I'd rather have a bag of poop then a bag of hope.

Ellis will never play again. Just like Seabrook, Weber etc. LTIR is the plan.

The nonsense you come up with. I just watched it. I saw no such thing. You really just want to see what you want. There was absolutely nothing dismissive of Provorov. Here will be your first clue. If facts mean anything to you. See what Provorov's ice time is tonight.

If his deal is insured that point could be 2023. A floor team like Arizona could have his $6.25m cap hit on the books while paying close to zero actual dollars.

Anyone have any betting odds for who gets injured for the Flyers?

I'm still deciding on if I take the parlay if someone gets injured in warmups.

The issue is really the players they shouldn't have kept. I personally don't feel that Sanheim is an 8 year term player. You should only sign top players and up to that length of term. Sanheim is a solid top 4 guy but that's it.

I'm just telling you what I watched, I had no pre-conceived ideas going into the episode, in fact after the 3rd episode I was debating whether I wanted to even watch it. I am just reading Torts' facial expression and what he said when the topic came up. If you didn't see it, OK, no need to insult. Provorov is playing in the top pairing so I expect him to play 22-23 minutes tonight, I don't think that means anything at this point. How much PP time does Provorov get, that might mean something.

Well if I'm not mistaken, the CBA requires all teams to insure their top 3 contracts.

Your reads on what coaches and GM's say, continue to be absurd. So you don't think how much a coach plays a player has anything to do with what he thinks about a player?
