So Brock Nelson is now the 1C? - kindlyrick
I kind of alluded to that yesterday. My guess is it's not necessarily a first line, Second line thing.. it's just 1 and 1A... but the way Barzal's line played yesterday left a lot to be desired.

I’m going to judge now, no need to wait ten games and I say fire everyone. - Cptmjl
I agree. Lambert clearly lost the room. |

Barzals playing with an aging Parise and Palmieri who’s best days were years ago
I won’t judge until midway into the season but it appears to me you have the same lack luster roster which lacks scoring, and now you’re not playing Trotz defensive style. I don’t see how this is a recipe for success. |

Still early but a lot to be concerned about with that line. Barzal was pretty much on his own.

Very early but it’s also the same roster basically from last year. The isles are looking more and more like the old isles whereby they tried to fit a square peg in a circle. No first line RW to play with Barzal, so now they try and make Beauvillier that guy and bump Nelson up to 1C. Same old isles |

Just putting aside being an Islander fan for a second, you cannot look at the forward roster and have a lot of confidence at this point. Things can change and Lane cannot be as rigid as Barry was the lines and offense.

I dont really know much about Lame Lambert to be honest, but it appears that he's more of a throw everything at the net type coach. I think Trotz worked for this team because quite frankly they lack major league talent, and that hasnt changed. I like Nelson and Beauvillier as much as the next guy, but on no other team are they the first line. As a matter of fact, those two have literally been the "secondary scoring" for the last 3 years. |

Barry is a fine coach and especially for the defensive part of the game, but his system made it tough on the offensive game. No question the Islanders could have used more forward talent with Barry as well. If you are a coach of another team, there are just not many Islander forwards that have you worried at this point.

PP scored a goal as well. It's not complicated with this Islander team. We know what they do well and what is the area of concern.

I have to agree here, he looks lost in the Defensive end. He watches the game he needs to participate.

I thought Beau played very well, I would love to see him with Barzal for a bit b/c he has the speed. Parise knows what to do but just isn't as fast as he once was... Palmieri is what he is... I think he would be better on another line. His whole game is around the net and if you aren't getting the puck to the net he is kind of useless.
First time in a while I didn't curse Bailey's play a lot.. he actually was "ok".
Lee was a non event in this game.
I thought Casey played well but the rest of his line was a zero.

For a guy who has to know it's his last chance he played with Zero desperation. I know Florida is a good team, but you have to make something happen.

Parise has had a great career but it's coming to an end and he is a 3rd line player at best. Beau with Barzal might be the way to go and maybe try Wally when he gets back? Need to find out about Wally. I would run Barzal, Beau, and Wally for 20 games. You can try Palms with Lee and Nelson
Casey played well but I think he had the turnover on the 2nd goal? That 4th line even when Cal is back is just not the same any longer.
Lee was a non factor. Sorry Schwein.
Bailey did not seem that bad. |

The team played very well against the team that won the President's trophy last year. Having a Ref call a complete B.S. penalty in the first 20 seconds as the team was buzzing and the building was going nuts is just absurd.
In case you are interested the Ref is Gord Dwyer who played in the NHL for the Rangers, Habs, and Tampa Bay. His last attempt at making a team he was a late cut in 2007 by the Islander's. He is also the guy who called the absurd "interference" penalty on Salo, the roughing on Lee, and the B.S. holding on Pelech. it was a joke. - niteislander

I don't think they played poorly, but like you said...it's going to take them some time to adjust to a new system. Problem is that they have a pretty tough schedule to start the year. The first 13 games they see FLA 2x, NYR 2x, TBL, CAR, COL, STL, and CGY. 9 out of those 13 are real tough. - eichiefs9
Too slow and not enough punch up front. They will be in most games because of their D and goalies but they are so facking boring to watch because all they do is dump the puck in and get beat to it |

I have heard that from friends that were there telling me the same thing. Starting to believe for whatever reason that the buildings noise level doesn’t translate well to tv. Also, I know I didn’t mistake empty seats for human beings at center ice
I assume the seats were bought and not sold by brokers or there were a heck of a lot of no shows. - Cptmjl

Trading for Palmieri instead of Hall was a huge mistake. Hall was EXACTLY what we needed... Palmieri is exactly what we have plenty of. |

If only Buffalo wanted what the Isles offered up and I guess Hall had a say because of his NMC? A lot of "ifs" but yeah he would have been a nice fit. |
