It should be remembered that the team has played only 3 games. They've won 2 of them, and while they have not looked convincing, the only consistent factor from last year is the top line. Every other line combination has added new elements. The more you decide it's not working and want to mix it up and add in new players, the longer it takes for lines to gel.

I don't think the 4th line has been considerably effective either - the goaltender has been keeping their numbers up - I mean to put it in perspective, David Kampf has an HDCA rate of 22 per 60 minutes of play. His career worst was 12.8 playing in Chicago. Noting that both Aube-Kubel and Aston-Reese are even worse at limiting high danger chances against (25 and 23, respectively) - but none of them have historically been this poor at it.

Chemistry and playing your role takes a bit of time to develop and learn, but the role they will ultimately play is critical to the team's success, so I'd expect Keefe to have some patience. If I were tinkering with that line, I might consider swapping ZAR and Engvall and seeing if the additional mobility changes anything with the line's effectiveness.

With regards to Robertson - I mean, they could use more 5v5 scoring for sure, but one of the 5 5v5 goals we've scored this year was by Malgin - and he's been somewhat effective. His reward is to sit in the press box for it? I don't know. Right now (again only 3 games), one problem with the team is that Marner isn't going yet - the top line has 3 goals against at 5v5 and only 3 goals for. They need to be better, control the play better, and take fewer risky chances. Their opportunities will come - so keep the puck out of our net.

Which hasn't been playing very well, mainly due to Matthews having a slow start.

If your best players aren't their best, it's a tough slog winning in the NHL, as you know.

If he's going to be with the team for 4 weeks or so might as well get him in some games.

You see guys like Bergeron, Marchand, Pavelski, ect all play very effective late into their 30s...Leaf fans and media put this doomsday clock on JT which is ridiculous.

Players are allowed to have down years and I think for aging star players they may have seasons where they need to adjust their game.

Bergeron had that 55 point season when he hit 30. Pavelski had a couple down years then hit a PPG last year.

We could see JT's best season this year.

Saw a funny tweet that JT's jump can be attributed to his kids finally being of an age to sleep through the night.

He couldn't work out properly after the concussion so no surprise to me that he had a sub-par year last year. With age, you take a month or two off and it all turns to poop in a hurry. Just ask Wedgie ....

A proper summer and training camp and he's looking good. Fingers crossed.

I think him and Willy could have a monster season.

I have them both on my fantasy hockey team so I hope

Jt is going into his 5th year with the leafs.
So far he has 278pts in 283 games which is 0.98ppg. Being the first youngish superstar to hit FA, we all knew his contract was going to be inflated at bit. But at the time, i was hoping to get 4-5 quality years from him, if he stays at just under a ppg this season, then i feel the contract was very much worth it and has met expectations.
That doesnt even include the final two years where he could still be close to ppg.
JT's great, perfect captain for the leafs.
