I heard the freak out was queued up soooo ...
This is a team of complimentary pieces. There are no alphas. I include Miller as I feel like he is a reluctant alpha, but by default he is the alpha on this team. I always thought he was a complimentary piece ... a good one, but not a go-to guy. Managements (multiple) have so desperately wanted this team to have a superstar or two, they have even paid them as such. Unfortunately, it just hasn't panned out. We didn't get the kind of picks one would hope with all those down years during sedins swang song and post. They'll need to dip it low again and hope the lottery doesn't do them dirty. I say everyone is in play, even poor demko ... guy deserves better. |

On a positive note, Burroughs and Podkolzin looked good, during my brief viewing. - Reubenkincade

Th guy has been on the ice for every goal against, what's up with that.
Also, why you have to be so negative, all the time? |

Not sure the Canucks can afford several high draft picks, to dump Miller's contract.
Ultimately, King is under the direction of Boudreau, so he needs to reel him in, but I believe he is a good friend of the Sedin's. |

That is some pretty good depth, when you can take those 2 out and have good players to replace them. |

Maybe if Bouds let the main team play 45 preseason games the team wouldn't suck this much? |

Some good tidbits this morning:
Asked if that was a good sign the players had at least gathered themselves together to deal with it, Boudreau spoke with some sarcasm.
“Not usually,” he said.
Turning the page may be the easiest solution, Boudreau pondered, though his team needs to get out its mental rut.
“Mentally weak would be a good assessment. When you’re on a roll, you’re waiting for good things to happen, when you’re in something like this, you’re waiting for something bad to happen. I mean, that’s the natural portion of it, but the good thing is we’re right back at it tomorrow,” he said.
And from the Athletic:
The biggest defensive concern is the penalty kill, which has allowed six goals in 12 opportunities. It’s looking eerily similar to last season. Just like then, the Canucks’ woes start with being unable to win a draw for the early clear.
Curtis Lazar is 0-for-6 this season on short-handed faceoffs, and he’s been on the ice for four of the club’s PK goals. Winning that initial draw is huge because it forces the power play to regroup and enter the zone with control. And, as we know, the hardest part about excelling on the power play is often just getting set up. Lose faceoffs consistently and you’re giving the opposition an easy setup.
J.T. Miller is excellent at a lot of things, but it’s no secret he isn’t a defensive stalwart. Why, then, is he consistently trotted out first on the ice short-handed? Before the season, I pointed to Lazar’s addition and wondered whether it’d be prudent to cut Miller’s penalty-killing load. That’d be a way to ensure Miller doesn’t play exorbitant minutes, but more important, he just isn’t good short-handed.
There are 138 forwards who’ve played at least 200 penalty-kill minutes since the 2019-20 season. Among those 138 forwards, Miller ranks fourth to last with a rate of 9.63 goals against per 60 minutes. It isn’t just a matter of bad bounces, either, as his expected-goals-against rate — which is calculated based on the quality of chances surrendered — is also fourth to last in the league during that span, according to Evolving-Hockey.
It’s time to reconsider Miller’s penalty-killing workload. |

Maybe Seattle's issues really were Wilson and Wilson's starting his slide to being backup quarterback material. He certainly can't cry that he doesn't have the O line protection or that the team is run-focused. Clearly he's not Wilson circa 2012 when he was good enough to take the team on his back to 2 back to back Super Bowls and winning once. - DariusKnight
Wilson had his day. By rights that Seattle team with him and the Legion all in their primes they probably should have won 3 Super Bowls. Carroll and Coodinators cost them the one vs NE. Should have been Lynch pounding that ball in all day long. |
