In the case of minutes played it probably says more about the guys not getting the minutes then it does about Mac getting them. If you can’t out preform a guy like that, if your losing minutes to a guy like that then what does that say about your own play?
- landros 2

Probably also had to do with the amount of PP time and PK time in the game as well. Players needed a break lol

Farabee had 7:54pp 1:27pk, JVR 8:01pp, and Konecny 8:23pp and 2:21pk. I noticed Zac was out there with some of them at evens more than a few times.

Not defending or editorializing in any way. Just looking at the circumstances to try to explain the ice times.

Farabee has struggled so far….seems to be fighting the puck…needs a goal or two to get him going. Hopefully it’s just that and not the injury.
- landros 2

I think after the surgery he has had, its going to take him 10-20 games to regain his game and confidence. I thus think we need to set our expectations of him appropriately. And remember, Farabee is not this 30+ goal scorer anyway, he is a nice player that has good hockey sense, but he at least to this point has never been some big offensive threat.

I guarantee they do laugh to themselves. Again with the hustling nonsense. He skates around doing nothing.

Zac is not an NHL caliber player. There are numerous stats available that back it up along with the eye test.

Please attach your credentials that makes you a talent scout/expert.

Have you played hockey, if so for how long and at what level?
Have you every coached hockey, if so for how long and at what level?
Have you ever scouted for a professional team?
Have you worked directly under a NHL GM or asst GM?

I will defer to the experts opinion and not some guy who posts ridiculous remarks on a discussion board.

Farabee is coming off major neck surgery and it was not expected he would even start the season with the Flyers. Thus I think expectations are low for him at least early on in the season, as he tries to regain his health and timing. Frost has produced very little so far.
- jd250

He has produced better at ES than any other Flyer.

Funny how Frost gets singled out despite him actually producing but Farabee has absolutely nada despite a ton more ice time and nobody here seems to have noticed.

I called him out for ya last night !

(paraphrasing)

Talked about how Torts is changing the way the players play in terms of effort. Not surprised at the early success due to the Torts effect but expects them to fall back to earth sooner than later. With the caveat that they will be nowhere as bad as last season simply because Torts wont allow them to quit like they did so often last season.

They won't make the playoffs but wont be the worst team in the league.

Then he hawked his book coming out.

He is probably right.

Expect a middle finish for the Flyers just outside the playoffs. Fletcher and the other used car salesmen will sell it as a victory. Mission Accomplished. Team Stabilized.

Fletcher will then vacate the GM role to Danny Briere and keep the training wheels on. A difference maker will be found in the offseason via Free Agency by Spending to the Cap and Maximizing Resources per Dave Scott. The impact will not change the overall status of the Flyers. A bubble team and not a legit contender.

Rinse Repeat forever and ever. Worst spot possible for a franchise.

He's scoring better than any other Flyer at ES. A normal person would think that's pretty good for a 3rd line center.
- Feanor

I assume you watch the games. Do you really think he is visible in those games? Does he do anything that really stands out less a good play here and there? Do you think he is a consistent player?

It is good he is producing. That is a positive. I don't get all worked up him putting up more points than others on a bad team. He is getting his shot so lets see what he does with it.

Take away game 1 and what has he done since, despite have some very good looks to score some goals? He has some nifty skill no doubt, but what does it matter if for most of the game he is not driving offense. You also mentioned Frost is not playing with top players, but how long are we going to use this as an excuse? This is his 3rd coach in 3 years and he always seems to be in the same spot, why is that? If Frost was truly that good, why, especially with Couts out, is he playing less minutes lower in the lineup? Does Torts have it out for him also?
- jd250

Injuries are a valid excuse for Farabee but not for Frost?

Also, I'm not complaining about Frost's linemates because he's creating scoring chances and putting up points just fine right now.

There's just a certain subset of the fanbase that refuses to see that the kid is playing well.

As for Torts, he's using the kid in regular PK and PP rotation. And the ES ice time is just Torts playing the long game with the kids... using MacEwen, Deslauriers and Seeler as poster boys for "The Standard".

Funny, I read all the Zac hate. I see a player that works his nuts off. He has been a decent point producer at all other levels. I see a coach that’s throwing him a bone and saying let’s see if there’s more then a 4th line tough guy in there? I’m obviously sceptical as well but you can’t fault the effort. With his increased ice time last night that might say more about the guys he took ice time away from.
- landros 2

Zac ain’t no scorer but he might be able contribute. His assist was from pure hard work and going into the corner. Can’t fault that. The sad thing is some guys have the heart and the work ethic but not the talent. Perhaps if a guy like ZM shows that heart and work, and it’s rewarded, the guys with the talent will get the message to put that effort in. Talent without effort gets you failures and this seems to be a message being sent early by Torts. Long term that’s not a horrible philosophy.

Also spoke of Scott Laughton and compared him to Dave Poulin. From a responsibility and defensive standpoint. Also from a leadership point of view. A 3rd or 4th line player on a good team but a guy in the locker room and on the ice who leads by example.

Also mentioned Carter Hart and it may be his time to advance his game under Torts. Believes he can be what everyone thought he would be.

The bottom will fall out of this season if Hart gets injured. Sandstrom just looks like an AHL goalie. Season may still fall out if Hart does not continue to be elite. The goalies can't afford to let in soft goals with the lack of goal scoring on the team.

The team is at least interesting to watch. Top 5 pick is still in play as much as 14th overall at this point. We'll know a lot more by Christmas.

I'm not knocking him .. I am pointing out that 3 head coaches now, from AV who sent him down after 10 games to Mike Yeo and now Torts seem to have the same opinion of him, i.e. Frost is OK and doing well .. BUT ....

To me, I want to see Frost driving offense consistently throughout the game, even if that offense does not result in a goal. What I see is a flash here, and a nifty move there and then long stretches where he and others are chasing the puck around. I also feel Frost has had some good looks and has not converted and right now the Flyers need their higher skilled players to score if they are to have any chance to win games. So far again this season, I don't see any evidence that Frost is going to be that player for them.
