All in all, it was an OK night for Frost. Was glad he got an assist out of the entry on the first goal because that sort of subtle nice play gets instantly forgotten by most. But he can be better. Was the sort of game for him that Tortorella has talked about several times in camp and Yeo discussed last year: made some plays when the team had momentum, merely blended in when the momentum was against them. - bmeltzer
In a night where most of the forwards were outclassed by Tampa, Frosty being merely OK was encouraging. I've definitely seen him play better games in the past, but for the first part of the game, only he and TK really had anything going on at all.
Changed in the latter half as Torts started rolling vets and MacEwen for more "straight ahead" hockey. Lot of the kids not named Cates rode pine. |

Carter Hart is by far the biggest reason why they have 6 pts right now instead of 0.
Still, mighty gutsy comeback win last night. - Tomahawk
Worry not good man. He will be injured soon enough |

Frost had himself a strong night. Zamula played well under pressure too.
There's some hope for the future. - Tomahawk
I don't think Frost had a strong game, he was not a factor IMO. Zamula on the other hand I thought had a very strong game, good active stick, standing people up and winning battles. He is quickly becoming a mainstay in this lineup. |

The defense is supporting him? - MJL
Have to admit... 4-5 guys standing around in front of him is probably an improvement over 4-5 guys chasing the strong side puck carrier lol.

It is good to see them battle. Hopefully they continue to battle when we get deeper into the season. I like Noah Cates.
Hart has been very good and the shooting percentage is high. They still need the puck more. Do not drive play enough to sustain winning. They are riding the Philly wave right now. |

The coach's claims about accountability seem starkly at odds with him continuing to roll out MacEwen after that totally unnecessary hugging penalty he took five minutes into the third period. Hopefully Tippett is healthy soon and Zack can take his clown show back to Allentown. |

Its not encouraging at all! In fact one play in particular stood out to me. Tampa has their goalie pulled and the puck exited the Flyers zone and got behind the Tampa defenseman. Frost had a chance to jump up there, beat the defender collect the puck and ice the game. Instead he got bodied off easily and Tampa regained possession. that to me a Frost in a nutshell. Compare that to the play N Cates made in the 3rd, beating two Tampa defenders, stealing the puck, spinning around and beating Vasey top shelf stick side. Comparing N Cates to Frost .. there is no comparison! |

In the first period Zamula tried to stand up Point and got beat clean, forcing Hart to make a breakaway save. Your mainstay could be out of the lineup as soon as the $25.5 million man is healthy.

Didn't watch a whole lot but overcoming a 2 goal deficit. On the road. To a team that gives them fits. All's well that ends well.
Torts must have that midas touch. |

was discussed a few weeks ago. Can we now say cates is a better all around player than frost? - Peter Richards
They're different players. Yes, Cates is more well-rounded. Frost is more naturally gifted offensively. I judge Cates by what I want to see from him, and vice versa from Frost. I will say that Frost has become a much more well-rounded player over the last season-plus than he was in his first pro season (year 2 was a lost season due to injury).
Have said this before, and Frost himself confirmed it when I had a 15-minute one-on-one interview with him last Friday: It almost did him no favors with the Soo that he and his line almost always had the puck. His +70 in 2017-18 and +33 (with much lesser linemates) in 2018-19 with the Soo were way more a reflection of dominating puck possession to a level that simply doesn't exist in the pros. He had to make large-scale adjustments to the way he played in junior hockey ("to be honest, I got away with playing a bit lazy in junior," Frost said the other day) because you don't have the puck nearly as much in the pros, especially in the NHL and, unless you're Wayne Gretzky, you can't play from a standstill or even a glide. Have to keep the feet moving.
Yeo pushed and pushed and pushed Frost last year on those areas. That was good prep for playing under Tortorella. Yeo also said multiple times that he told Frost don't worry about points -- worry about process and the points will eventually start to come more frequently again, too.
Side note that I forgot to mention above: Was happy to see Frost pull out his toe-drag and shoot move last night on Victor Hedman. Hedman used his long reach to recover after being beaten but he's an elite D who is also 6-foot-7 with a freakish reach. Not many would have recovered.

Point does that to a lot of defenseman. When Risto comes back Seeler will sit. |

No comparison, indeed. Cates got caved in at ES last night, while Frost did not.

Florida D is atrocious, this is a winnable game - ClaudeFather
A very winnable game. I watched them the other night in Boston and they were terrible, the game was no where close to the score. I am not a Paul Maurice fan, I think he is a mediocre coach with a mediocre track record of mediocre teams. Florida didn't look anything like the team they were last year. |

That's funny coming from the guy who already died and went to hell trying to pretend Ristolainen was a good defenseman that the Flyers really needed. |

No doubt. The level or severity of the high danger chances they're giving up is reduced somewhat due to the style of play. Bleeding shots attempts and scoring chances isn't what I would call supporting a goalie. Sooner or later, pucks are going to start going in. Hart having to stand on his head every game is not a recipe for long term success.

I know you weren't, I am comparing them to demonstrate the difference between a young player (Cates) that is showing the goods to be a very good top 6 NHL forward, and a young player (Frost) that I think comes no where close. |

Since you want to make pronouncements based on tiny sample sizes...
Cates has 1 ES point and is getting crushed like a paper cup in possession.
Frost has 3 ES points and is not getting crushed.
