That’s fine but when someone mentions possession stats it’s relative to the conversation when the other player had a more difficult matchup - ClaudeFather
Of course it is but people are characterizing players individual play as well as the team's overall play inaccurately. Ultimately, scoring more goals and winning is what matters. However when we look at some relative information, it paints a truer picture and what we can expect to happen. For example, many seem to think that DeAngelo is playing really well. One poster even says he is very good defensively. Not the case in reality. That can be done with most players on the team. When we look at the Flyers as a whole after 3 games. They're the 3rd worst team in the league in CF%. 3rd worst in xGF%. 2nd worst in the league in Scoring chances for %. 4th worst in the league in HDCF%. This season is eerily similar to last season. The Flyers are being propped up by goaltending and some hot early scoring. That is bound to change.

VAN would do that in a heartbeat with their crappy D and 2 more years of cost certainty with Provorov. Horvat will be looking for a big payday. Last year was his first with over 30 goals and he’s been over 60 points once. It fills a hole and creates another for Philly. VAN is pretty much resigned to losing Horvat. - Minnyhock
You then move Sanheim up with TD. How you fill Sanheims spot is the tricky part. Horvat allows you to slide Cates back to wing and maybe even eventually Hayes
Just some food for thought. Not sayin I would or wouldn't do it. What type of money you think he will get on his next deal? |

The above is a different conversation..... this wasn't the conversation we were having in regards to who had the tougher matchups, cates or frost. |

who do you have between the pipes tonight and what score?
I got Sandstrom and 4-2 Cats
side note- I see Nic D chasing Tkachuk around the ice a few times. If Mac is in, Tkachuk draws him into a call

I am by no means saying Deangelo is a defensive stalwart but he is seeing the tough assignment, playing a lot of minutes, and holding his own. He’s been a good player in the offensive zone and contributes on the PP. He can break the puck out and skates well. He’s a good player and not as bad on D as some like to paint him. |

Travis Sanheim has been doing a lot of nothing. Fine from a defensive standpoint he isn’t contributing much at all. Team isn’t lighting it up either but he’s been very pedestrian |

Horvat is playing 1C now. My guess is he would want Couturier money. He would have to get more than Hayes. My guess is it would take 7.5M for 7-8 yrs.

That's the least tricky part. They have York and Zamula to play 2LD and 3LD long term.

We need a dman who can be fine from a defensive standpoint. Provorov and DeAngelo are getting gashed for scoring chances, like that one last night where 37 year old Corey Perry cut thru them like he was McDavid.
Sanheim led the defense in ES scoring the past 3 years with 10 more ESP than Provorov despite playing 126 fewer minutes. Don't be shocked if he leads the defense in that again this season. |

Neither have shown they can handle that type of role as of yet. That is taking a risk, maybe one worth taking? I do not know.

Surely they would want Hayes back in a deal to offset Horvat. I kid.

There is a large sample of games for DeAngelo as a player. He is bad defensively. Not Yandle bad but bad. He is a very good offensive player and really good with puck. Away from it, not so good. We have to look through the early smoke. It would help to get a few players back to see where this team really is. A larger sample of games will tell us more.

I thought AJ Mleczko was good last night. She has more of a Canadian broadcast style, sticking to what's going on the ice instead of playing the wiseass. Also liked that she wasn't scared to dive into the hockey nuance instead of painting everything in the same broad dramatic strokes.
Bucci doing PBP tho... terrible. People hate Leah Hextall, but I'd rather listen to her than Bucci. |

If that's the woman who did the Flyers game last night, I thought she was very bad. The amount of times she got tongue tied and stumbled over her words was astounding.
