It’s really just more of the same poop and excuses we’ve been subject to for most of the franchise’s existence. Only for about a five year period, 2008-2012, has the team been truly championship caliber. And even then they didn’t manage to win a Cup.
The team looks awful! No getting around that. Right now there’s hockey, playoff baseball, football and even basketball, if that’s your thing, it’s a great time to be a sports fan as there’s a lot of options out there and beer to be consumed. - Pacificgem
Technically we've done that with Petey, Horvat, Boeser, Demko, Hughes and a few others. If Miller is that much of an issue do you see this club winning if he's gone? I think it goes quite a bit deeper...
The immediate concern is D.
Pack up Pearson/Garlnad 2nd and get something done. - LordHumungous
And only 1 of them is barely a Dman, Discuss amongst yourselves and try to figure which one it is.
I'm not throwing jerseys or towels just yet like most of the whiners here. We have what it takes to score and win games that we know. Defense is where we start. With Dermott/Myers and Hughes healthy we are a different team. We are basically playing with an AHL defence right now so the results are not truly shocking. - LordHumungous
So we need about what .650 the rest of the way...#PLAYOFFS!
You have to build from the net out, other than Hughes the Canucks drafting of defencemen is pretty much nonexistent.
Horvat is a great 2nd or 3rd line center on a good team, Boeser is a complimentary player, Hughes is magnificent at the offensive side of the game but ordinary defensively, which is fine, he doesn’t have to be everything, all the time.
Demko is struggling but he’s really good, only Pettersson and Demko are solid player core pieces imho. Hughes too if he had more help back there.
The whole thing is a mess from years of throwing poop against the wall to see what sticks, and I don’t see it changing any time soon from what Rutherford is saying. - Pacificgem
Hughes is good like Tory Krug is good, But Krug had Chara in Boston, and has Parayko in St Louis. Otherwise he is complementary as well.

The Canucks home opener wasn’t a nightmare, it actually happened.
Tried to make sense of a club whose president is already musing over a rebuild 6 games in.

As he said. "Very well could be".
What some fans aren't seeming to grasp is the game is played on the ice. Not with a controlling in your hand and no one else competing against you. Or on paper where it can look great but not be.
Even though Drance says once again there is "no plan". Certainly was a plan, it's just not going the way they management would have liked or intended it too.

Well there are some saying to trade but also think, he’s got no value now, and you have to add sweeteners.
Even if JTM turns things around, do they trade him by TDL? - Quinn's Quest
Krug plays with Faulk. Leddy plays with Parayko - manvanfan
That's not the point who he actually plays with, but the overall calibre of those teams entire defense cores. They have or had big minute munching Dmen to play actual defense for 25 plus minutes a night. Not run out an undersized offensive Dman 27 minutes a night because that is all you have. #overyourhead

Yeah over my head that you mention specifics in players but are talking about entire team D cores. Team systems too.
(frank) no wonder it went over my head. Christ sorry dude. Wow, how did I not know that from two players. My bad.

I always enjoy your condescending posts. Thank goodness you enlighten us with tales of how the game is & should be played.
