Ottawa looks good too after a complete tear down. I don’t expect them to win the cup but I watched a period last night and they play a heavy fast game. I enjoyed it. - Pacificgem

A lot of this has to do with coaching, last season when Boudreau took over it was a breath of fresh air for the players, they responded, but that’s obviously worn off. The Canucks have allowed 30 goals against, they don’t play with much structure defensively as five-man units.
It doesn’t help that the defence is terrible as well. Their turnovers are amateur level. Add on top of that, that there seems to always be a culture issue within the organization that started with the Linden/Benning era. Organizational culture is something you build over time within the locker room, I can speak from experience there.
The Canucks don’t really have a core of players to speak of, they have some nice young players but not a core group of players in my opinion. When you’re continuously slapping poop against the wall to see what sticks and you have a high turnover within the locker room you can’t build a culture.
The only way to truly fix this is from the top down! |

That Jake Sanderson kid will be better and he won’t have the concussion issues that plague Byram. He’s only played 55 games in his career and this is his third year in the league. |

Agreed, Byram seems to be overrated like all

Ottawa trading Erik Karlsson for Stutzle at #3 overall and Josh Norris is a complete ass-kicking on their part. On top of that they take Jake Sanderson two picks later at #5 overall. That was a great move on their part. We haven’t seen the likes of that since Brian Burke was GM in Vancouver. |

I’m happy for their fanbase. Hopefully they knock out the Leafs in playoffs |

Getting Stutzle at #3 was as lucky as Colorado getting Byram at #3. Ottawa did not expect to suck 2 years in a row and SJS did not expect to suck as well. |

And Vancouver didn’t expect to suck this bad therefore luck must be coming our way. |

I let my wife read our conversation. She related it too.
A child saying they want a blue cup, you telling them they are getting the green cup and when you give them the blue cup anyways they are mad about it.
Obviously the kid as you said is "primed" now for the green cup and that's why he is mad.
She said it's a children's attitude and not something even a teen should display. |

Sanderson going to be a beast for years.
Shane Pinto playing pretty well. I liked him early 20s in that draft.
Ottawa has plucked some real good players lately from the draft.
Picking #3 and #5 in a draft would surely accelerate any teams rebuild. |

Absolutely, luck was involved, in the case of getting Stutzle. However, their scouting department should be commended for asking for Josh Norris, who scored 35 goals last year, in the deal. That, in and of itself, was a great find, not to mention adding Stutzle to the deal.
They’ve got a great group of players 24 and under to build with/around. For all the losing the Canucks have done over the past eight seasons we have Pettersson, Hughes, Podkolzin and Rathbone under the age of 25 at the NHL level…da fuq? |

the only thing she did differently from what I said was put in a way that a child would understand because that's what she does, therapy for children.

They also got Ridly Greig at #28 in the first round that year. Three first round picks in one year…imagine! |

Yours is such a dumb analogy because it's highly individualized. Here:
Another child says they want a blue cup, you tell them they are getting the green cup and when you give them the blue cup anyways they are happy about it because that's what they wanted.
On top of that, your analogy doesn't even line up with what we're talking about – the fans didn't ask for a blue cup (winning team), they were first told about the winning team. Maybe this will make it easier for you:
Someone is told then will get X, then they receive Y, then they are disappointed because they expected X.
The fans don't want a losing team, they want a rebuild. Yes, rebuild entails losing, but losing doesn't necessarily equate to rebuilding (see: overpriced contracts, trading away draft capital, large UFA signings, etc.) |

Imagine if Aquilini and Benning had started a rebuild AFTER their first year, when it was so painfully obvious the organization needed one……. |
