Itâs The Who do we trade now show.
Personally I donât think anything will work out. So many times trades and draft picks turn into duds. Itâs just more years of misery for nothing. Change has to come in waves and layers not one approach.
If I am sure of one thing, no matter what happens, everyone will be unhappy until the product on the ice produces wins. |

Agreed, it would have been a far more thoughtful piece had he thrown in some patented Don material.
Something along the lines of Boeser is trash, swedes blow and the team is soft. |

unfortunately i don't think they want to go full Kucherov with him considering he hasn't even practiced with the team at this point. They're anticipating him back sometime around the end of December last I heard. - BINGO!

Carolina has currently 6.8M in cap space. If you retain half on Horvat, add a 2nd round pick also. It just cost Van a 2nd round pick to save 1.3M - manvanfan

I'm happy. I was watching some highlights on prospects picks this morning. Leo Carlsson looks great, so does Fantilli. Bedard goes without saying.
I wasn't as high on Yager. Calum Ritchie would be a good top 15 pick, right hand center. Matthew Wood has a lot of promise. Charlie Stramel is the type of player Van could really use.
Only 3 defenders were ranked in central scoutings "A" rankings but I think a few of those "B" will move into first round territory. |

Jannik Hansen is calling for a proper Vancouver Canucks rebuild, not a âretoolâ

When Jannik Hansen made his weekly appearance on The Peopleâs Show on Sportsnet 650, he cut right to the chase: in his eyes, the Vancouver Canucks are in deep, deep trouble. The former Canuck didnât hold back, firing shots at the team-building approach led by ownership and the front office over the last decade and itsâ lack of success, as well as recent messages by the new management team.
Specifically, Hansen pointed to President of Hockey Ops Jim Rutherfordâs Saturday night interview on After Hours with Scott Oake, and his use of the phrase âretool on the flyâ. That phrase has become synonymous in this market with ownershipâs willingness to embrace mediocrity in favour of short-term profits, and Hansen knows it.
âThis started when they fired - Reubenkincade[Alain Vigneault] back when we got swept by San Jose. Itâs been 10 years, I havenât seen the fruit of their labour, if you will. I donât think theyâre closer to winning the Stanley Cup than they were when they traded [Kesler]. It seems like you need something radical to shake this up,â Hansen said.

âFool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. We saw this story last year. Itâs the same group, itâs the same leaders, itâs the same horses pulling the wagon.â
From there, Hansen broke down the basic fallacies of a retool, and why that kind of team-building strategy is almost always destined to fail.
âThis âretool on the flyâ, we add a couple of pieces, we still have a good core. But what happens is that the core keeps moving, and youâre not quite there. So weâre gonna get two or three, four years down the line, and all of a sudden we have these young players that might become really good, but Petey, Quinn and Demko might be that much older and weâre talking about them like weâre talking about Bo and J.T. right now,â Hansen said.

âYou need to have these guys coming together at the same time if you want to have an opportunity and then fill in around them. But if you keep up this patchwork, youâre always going to be short on players the right age and finding the right guys at the right time.â
Hansen did acknowledge that the road through a full rebuild is painful and difficult, but he also pointed out that so many of the teams that fully invested in the process went on to years of contention.
âLook at Chicago before they picked up Kane, Toews, Keith, and Seabrook and how bad those teams were. And yeah, it was a lot of tough nights. Iâm sure theyâre looking at Colorado, and how long they were bad. But it comes around and it seems like it comes around quicker if you do that.â

But when it comes to how the Canucksâ front office should approach these kinds of changes in the public sphere, again Hansen didnât pull any punches.
âI think the fans in Vancouver and the media, if you come out and tell them that this is what to expect, and not a Jim Benning message that âwe will fix this in three yearsâ and seven years later weâre still in the same hole, then you can buy into it,â Hansen said. âThereâs gonna be a lot of tough, tough hockey games here. But then thereâs a clear path instead of this status quo where youâre just hovering in the middle, youâre not quite good enough to get into the playoffs, but youâre too good to get these draft picks thatâll make a true difference down the line.â
In Hansens defense he's not wrong on certain counts. But at the same time also hilarious to hear him comment on what this club needs considering his part in the country club for almost 10 seasons.

How do you propose they get help on defense? I doubt Boeser, or Rathbone etc, net much in the way of help on defense. - Reubenkincade
Rutherford can gunsling. Garland Pearson, Hogs make a trade for some help. Lots of teams that would take garland or Pearson. We'd have to toss something in so be it. |

Elias Pettersson (D-Petey) and Jonathan LekkerimÀki will represent Sweden at their 4-nations J20 tune up tournament next month.
Looks like thereâs only Finland, Sweden, and Czechia though.
The tournament is from November 7-13th in Ostrava, Czechia.
