A while back when I was looking at our cap space for the post Kane/Toews era I got to thinking maybe KD would have the bells to offer sheet someone after this season. So I went looking for the best RFA expiring contracts ... and the only candidate that I thought was worthy was Debrincat. Cracked me up.
Trading would likely have similar cost to acquire unless he's getting 8.5+ million, but an offer sheet only takes one to tango. - GreenJeans
Nirvana for me would be to be able to draft Bedard next year and then go after Austin Matthews in free agency in 2 years. |

Patrick Kane on the Blackhawks' early-season success:
"It's definitely been a pleasant surprise. But the point we're at now [is] we have a lot of confidence in this group. There's a lot of depth. There's contributions from everyone... A lot of good vibes in here."
Currently doesn't sound like a guy who is looking for the exits |

Regardless of what the media spews, I'm not sure Kane has ever looked to the exits. He is very aware of his place on the teams history, and that may mean more to him than chasing another cup. Yes, I'm sure he has been disappointed when guys like Panarin, Schmaltz and DeBrincat were moved, but he knows and understands that it is a business.
People keep comparing his situation to C. Giroux, the major difference that they leave out is that Giroux has never won a cup. Kane is probably pretty content with his cups, calder, conn smythe, etc. While a 5 year rebuild may not be his idea of fun, he also respects the prospect of playing for 1 club, and setting a bunch of team records.

I think it's illegal because it would be a way to offload cap. |

I think the downside of an offer sheet is the draft picks you have to give up. Don't think KD wants to give up his draft choices. |

How hilarious would it be if the Sens have to go the route of not qualifying him because of contract demands. {red font} |

Probably why they only got the 1st round pick for him |

Good post. You concisely summarized my thoughts on the matter. This goes for Toews too. |

Well i didn't think they would trade Cat, Dach, let Strome, Kubs walk so who knows what the hell is going to happen this year. |

Cat and Dach was a definite surprise, Strome and Kubalik, KD couldn’t give them away at last years TDL, and I think KD didn’t want them this year. Once he knew he could sign Domi and Athanaseu combined less than the qualifying offers for Kubalik and Strome, it became a no brainer in KD,s mind to cut bait IMO. |

I also really like how they play with their sticks on the ice almost all the time on defense and use one hand on the stick to give themselves more distance to just disrupt the opponents flow with the puck. |

So so so so much better getting the puck out of their own zone this year as well. |

It's not like they are going to win this game, not a chance, but the little things that contribute to winning are so nice to see again. |

For me I notice they are willing to actually defend their own blueline rather than just give it up. While the roster isn't overly talented, really like the effort and confidence they are playing with. Even if they are a bad team, want to see them set the standard on how they will play shift after shift. |

Panthers PP is a joke and the Hawks PK is pretty damn good. Brilliant positioning. |

LOL it really is fun to watch. I don't pretend these guys are going to do anything special, but watching guys bust their ass, play smart (mostly), play hard with extreme discipline bodes well for the future.
Early returns on the coaching decision can only be cast as absolutely glowing.
Hawks are now up 3-0. |

If the Hawks want a chance at getting Bedard they’d better trade Richardson. |
