Hawks have traded Forward Evan Barratt the the Flyers for Defenseman Cooper Zech - Zach Jarom
Interesting...another guy that seemed to have no place with the big club even considering the lack of forward depth.
As someone mentioned earlier don't think he completely fit the bill for what the new regime is looking for. Long on compete but kind of slow, I believe is the report on him? |

I think LA was talking about Beaudin. I'd guess the guy they got for him won't ever see the light of day. - Chunk
Yeah I was talking Beaudin, sorry if I had run-on thoughts.

KD celebrating the one year anniversary of Bowman's resignation by emptying the farm of his draft picks.
Yes, it's been a year already. The Jenner and Block report came out on Oct. 26, 2021. |

As thorough a read on Zech as I guess you will find. Dean must know of him from the Boston organization
https://blackngoldhockey....s-defenseman-cooper-zech/ - LAHawk
Meh. Zech is another you'll never hear from. Undrafted, played a couple of years on AHL contracts. Then the Flyers took a flyer on him signing him to a 2 year deal last year. Hawks will probably not QO next summer. Just another change of scenery trade sending Barratt back home to Pennsylvania. |

Replacing the small LHD vod left with the trade of Beaudin. KD also sent Riley McKay packing to the Habs's farm team Laval.
Only a matter of time until he unloads Reichel. |

I would imagine that Mitchell would be close to getting back to practice again soon as well. He was reported to be out for six weeks on September 22. It will be interesting to see how/if they get him into games in the NHL. - Chunk
Not sure if anyone mentioned it but the brace came off today I believe I read. |

Yeah I posted that about 5 minutes before someone said the brace was coming off. Hopefully he hasn't lost too much. He seemed to really be coming on last year. |

BTW, Bovquist has been a healthy scratch the last 4 games. Might get in the line-up next game due to an injury to one of the Blue Jacket's defenseman. - LAHawk
Boqvist had a lower body injury but possibly was recovered lately. Anyway, he played in their last game. His TOI was either13 or 14 minutes (don't recall exact amount). |

When a prospect is traded it comes after thorough review. Altybarmakian and Barret had a style I really wanted to see "play out" for the Blackhawks but have been judged lacking too much for NHL |

From what I've read, Boqvist was a healthy scratch the last four games and got in due to another player's injury. He was injured in the 3rd period yesterday after blocking a shot. |

There are plenty of guys in the AHL (for all teams) that people want to see get a shot in the NHL. The reality is that many of them simply aren't good enough to compete at that level. |

Well, I will take care of this madness. I just signed up for Center Ice package. I swear I would never abandon this team but was not sure I needed to spend the money to watch them lose. I am all in on the #Tankhardforbedard mission, but if these guys want to play hard and win or lose, I am all in on that to.
As Richardson said a rebuild is not about losing every game. I have a lot of hope for the future of this team, and love cheering for the underdog. So great time to be watching. It can be a great experience from the coaching staff right on down to the newest players. Go Hawks !!!

I've actually enjoyed following (and recently watching) the team more now vs the previous few years, and not only because of the recent results. There is no real "hope" that they will be good. We actually expect them to be bad. It allows you to key in on specific players, and/or what they are specifically trying to do on the ice.
The really funny thing is that KD has this team looking much more competent and competitive after intentionally tearing the thing down than Stan did intentionally trying to be good.
Hat tip to Richardson as well as Dean, Plante, King and Waite. At a minimum, they've been able to get most of this team on the same page. I'm sure Waite has an ulcer watching Stalock at this point. |

Actually I like the activity.
It is something else to talk about.
Also indicates that the GM has a vision/plan for the organization from top to bottom.
Finally it sends a message that the front office is not afraid of making moves. If you want to stick around you better get with the program and bust your arse. |

Agree.
They might lose their next 10 games. But you see good fundamentals. For the last 3 years the Hawks looked like they were at open skating at Rainbo Ice Arena. |

The stat that sticks out for me (extremely short sample size) is (take away the Colorado game) the Hawks are top 5 in giving up the least high danger chances (5 x 5) per game. This is with basically the same personnel (Jones, Jones, McCabe, Murphy) on the back end.
Troy Murray was saying it all throughout the game, that the Hawks can be aggressive (both forechecking and in the defensive zone) when the player knows he has support (like the F3 covering for the pinching defenseman). We rarely if ever saw that in the JC era.
The best is the 3 foot area just inside the blue line in the defensive zone. How many times last year (too many to count), did the Hawks turn it over in that area that resulted in a high danger chance/goal. Currently the Hawks are not looking for that fancy breakout. If they don't have a clean exit opportunity, it is lofted out, or banged along the boards, and the Hawks then try to win "center ice" to get the puck in the offensive zone.
This could all go out the window tomorrow against the high powered Oilers. But they are looking like an NHL team, not a bunch of kids following a soccer ball around on Saturday morning. |
