Yes. It went from tropical 26 to 5 in one fell swoop of the wind. |

I think they are at the point where they feel that playing Hoffman outweighs the problems of not playing him, but at some point, with Armia coming back, likely any day Slaf, too.... something had got to give with at least 2 forwards.
Pezzetta is going to Laval 100%, plus 1 or 2 more need to be decided upon.
I suspect they will deal with this short-term by sending Slaf to Laval.

and what are these "problems of not playing him" exactly..?
maybe he's a good guy and the team likes him but I'm starting to think players will start questioning the decisions being made here, he did absolutely nothing to deserve 1st line minutes. |

Right now?
You replace him with Pezzetta and that does not make the team any better. Ditto for Armia (when healthy), but at least Armia can be used on the PK and more defensive situations.
Slaf? Sure, I guess, but I don't think you can sit Hoffman for an extended period of time, either you play him or get him off the roster for good (waive / send to Laval, etc...).
Basically, looks like the Habs are punting the decision down the line and MSL is just trying to put a line-up together that has more than 1 line scoring goals.
(In this case, with Hoffman on the top line, he may end up with no lines scoring goals, but whatever....).
At the end of the day, they are still trying to win games.

but you wouldn't put him on the 1st line either... anyway you seem to find this more acceptable than I do lol. maybe they're trying to give him another showcasing chance and everyone's in on it, even the players.
and MSL mentioned the goal wouldn't be to win, so yes of course he won't be coaching to lose, but at the same time Hoffman won't make you win either, so that reason doesn't really make any sense lol |

Jesus (frank)in' Christ ... this is like attaching an anchor to Suzuki and Caufield. St-Louis might as well tie one hand behind their back as well.
We better hope to get scoring from our other lines tonight ... |

I am not saying I like Hoffman on the first line, or even in the line-up. And like Pezzetta, he does not need to be on the first line either.
But I understand how we got here, why MSL is putting him on the first line, and how the Habs don't really have to make a decision right now while there are injuries.
So they are just punting the decision.
Regardless of how frustrating may be. |

Yeah, I think he is hoping Monahan can get some more offense going with the second line.

That's more like it. Hoffman is not a 4th line player either.
I think St-louis might try this for one game, but Hoffman could still be out of the line-up when Slaf/Armia are back.
If there is a season to try some things and throw poop at the wall, this is it. |
