Elliotte;

Vancouver has two points in seven games. I can find one team that made the playoffs since 2005-06 in a full 82-game season despite such a poor start. That was 2013-14 Philadelphia, which was 1-6. The Flyers went 41-24-10 to get there.

Podz will be a nice complimentary second line winger IF all goes well. decent tools and works hard but nothing about his game is elite

How many teams who had 2 points in 10 games came back to make the PO?

I think you could still trade him for stuff without adding. He’s still a good offensive player who will likely finish around a ppg. His salary this season is still low, and cap is going up as much as $4m next year (allegedly)
- 1970vintage

Sorry but that is completely out of touch. He had decent value with one year left, less at TDL this year as a rental. Now he is untradeable no matter the cap going up. The optics of the start to this year, his age, years remaining.

For as bad as he's played, I don't think he magically became a horrible player. Things will level off. But now, saddled with that contract, it is a risk no one will touch compared to other options. Or it will take so much sweetening (or taking other problems) it won't make sense for a rebuilding team. Get ready to hear 'my contract sucks' in years to come. He will be unhappy here.

Being the smartest guy in a room full of morons isn’t exactly an accomplishment.

I’m far from the smartest guy in any room, but it’s fun to make fun of Aquilini’s stupidity.

I disagree. I think there are GM’s who would certainly make a deal for Miller. Sure, you might not get the value back that Canuck fans had hoped for, but he’s still *likely* a ppg player, and they don’t grow on trees.

I met Luigi several years ago in Maple Ridge, he could never understand "why people would go so crazy over the Canucks?" He didn't care much about them.

He called it "wasting idle time".

Because he’s not a Canadian, it’s something you grow up with, it’s in our DNA.

Is it possible to buy out a contract that hasn't started yet? Would they have to pay anything at all? Would there even be a cap penalty?

I love Pod but would still gladly trade him for Boldy.

I also got laughed at last year for saying I’d easily trade Pod + Hog for Stutzle

Boldy is a better player for sure. And you’d have to add to that to get Stutzle.

Fair enough to disagree. Also disagree with these couple points ...

GM's aren't in the business of doing each other favours (JB the exception), and make no mistake, taking a contract like his on is a favour. A contract that hasn't even started yet trying to be dumped, all sorts of flashing red signs around that. You are handicapping yourself on so many levels. The finer contract terms weren't negotiated by you and you have no idea what the fit will be like. Way too high a gamble. This is why TDL moves are made on final years. The risk is limited and it's a bit of a lottery usually won by just a couple teams by making a difference in home stretch or playoffs ... or striking a good long term fit in rare occurrences (see Tyler Toffoli, if JB had the time). Otherwise, you wash your hands end of the year and damage is limited to what you gave up.

I think he was only a PPG player b/c he had no one ahead of him on depth chart. He may be a PPG player, but at the sacrifice of how many goals against? That wouldn't fly on a good team adding him as a supplementary piece, nor would anyone want to start a rebuild around him given what has happened in Van. That would be one of those definition of insanity things.

Completely disagree, if we are trading Miller it is due to management switching gears. rebuilding/retooling and Miller now makes sense to move.

Horvat is likely the piece gone though as I doubt he wants to stick around for this sh!t show. Miller will make a good winger with EP or whoever we take in the top 5 this year(c'mon Bedard)

I’ve always thought of him as a complimentary piece, but he wasn’t far off a ppg before being given prime ice time. Let’s say he’s somewhere between 65-85 points, still first line production. His compensation is in line with his production.

I never wanted to trade for him, I still don’t like the trade, I hated that they resigned him, I doubt that they will/would trade him but I still think he is tradeable if they wanted to go down that road.
