Rocky Thompson on Frost: "Have seen a lot of good moments, for sure. Very highly skilled. Very fast. Needs to use his legs more to take full advantage of his speed. He's become a good defensive player. Did a good job the other night against Tomas Hertl; a tough matchup."
Flyers MB and social media keyboard Keith Allens: "Shows nothing. Not good enough. Pull the plug." - bmeltzer
Anyway. I've never advocated for pulling the plug. I have just said that we need to realize Frost, based on his draft position and other players taken at #27, probably is what he is. We have to stop thinking he is anything more than a 3rd or 4th liner. If, IMO he tops out as a 3rd liner who can put up 40 points a season, he will have turned out to be a good pick at #27 based on the history of that draft position.
I think the Flyers as a franchise have maybe over-hyped him all along based on his draft plus season stats in junior. I just say there was a reason he fell to #27.
And having him as a third line center playing behind Couts and (hopefully) Gauthier down the line may not be all that bad in the future.
I just feel like the franchise touted him like he was a top 10 pick and may have done him a disservice in the process. Especially since he was drafted the same year as Patrick with all that entails.

I love this reference and love the move. What better way to have a team bond then tell them you’ve all been a disappoint thus far. Time to prove them wrong!
No but seriously I did want to draft him that year so this could be interesting. - black_francis
yeah the beauty of the disaster is there is no risk in these moves |

I mean they flat out gave up on him, they cant think they are cup contenders - wcorvette
They drafted him to be a sniper. Now they’re hoping Wally or Raty will develop into the sniper they need.

all good, but not being in contention and losing him for nada is a little suspect, if the Flyers did this, you take this boards reaction to it, cut it in half and you still have a pissed off board

I'm happy with the Bellows pickup. I get it, he was placed on waivers, so nobody wanted to give anything up to get him. However, he has pedigree, is young and was not picked up to slog it out on the 4th line. He is light years better than the usual slop Fletcher picks up - Brown, Grant, MacEwan, Thompson and Sedluk. You can find these guys anywhere (usually in a beer league). Even if there is only a 0.1% chance he clicks, I'll take that over the other crap. At least he provides a glimmer of hope, as little as it may be. Plus, we are now at 50 contracts so Chuckles can't sign any other crap including Anisimov. Does any other GM hit the 50 contract mark? |

CHUCK claimed Yellow Bellows 😆 - THE EVIL WITHIN
Wow, I didn't think he would do it
Guess they were pretty lucky that waiver priority still follows last seasons's standings until Nov 1. |

Teams don’t want to give up picks when they can claim a comparable off waivers. This board was talking about picking up Vilardi weeks ago when he was rumored to being waived. Then he scored 4 goals in the last 3 exhibition games to make the team. Now he’s scoring over a point per game.

Nothing wrong with taking on another young forward project in a year already looking like growth and development is the best case scenario. Join with all the others in the 23-25 group that need to establish themselves.

Anytime you can increase the skill level of your team without breaking the cap, it's a good shot to take.

yes, this is what this team should be doing, we have a season to tinker with it. The injuries this season are a blessing so far.

Whether or not he was, it's all good.
I feel like players like Frost, Bellows, Tippett, Ratcliffe etc have a bit of the Peter White thing going for (against?) them.
I say that in that they dominate up to a certain level due to their size or skillset and then reach a level where that no longer is enough. They either have to adjust their game and adapt to their new reality or fall behind, sometimes permanently. It's not about effort, it's about what limits they have as humans.
I hope I am wrong and definitely want them to find their way. |

Really don't think the Flyers really hyped him up that much.
The hype basically wrote itself after the D+1 and D+2 seasons he had, plus how well he played at the U20s for Canada.
I personally don't agree with your draft position argument tho. Maybe the average value at that pick isn't high, but there have been a lot of players taken in that range that have actually gone on to do pretty well.
Maybe Frost won't be a superstar but I could still see him having a nice Justin Williams, Vaclav Prospal type of career. |
