and in other news,

I like hockey, been watching for decades, but the amount of publicity we now have to endure is at a level close to the point of no return.

the starting goalies are presented by Desjardins, adds on the boards every 30 secs, on helmets, on sweaters, 3 times per period for our 'regular' tv adds, plus the play-by-play guy saying many time here's a message from Videotron or St-Hubert, this PP is brought to you by Napa Piece d'auto, the OT by another guy, the 3 stars from someone else.... CA FINIT PLUS! ENOUGH !!
and if I have enough, imagine someone not as big a fan of the game as I am.
slowly killing it.

while I agree with what you're saying, aren't other professional sports also full of invasive advertisements?

it doesn't make the ads more tolerable knowing that the same kind of thing is occurring in other sports but at least hockey isn't the only one ruined by them lol

Well people own pro sports teams because they are for-profit people. They don't own them to maintain a symbolic relationship with the community.

Being a fan of a sports team is like falling in love with a prostitute

if I stop watching, they'll realize their profits are not growing anymore.
there's a limit, a balance between adds and viewers. not sure having more adds but less viewers is good for the bottom line.

It's just a question of how many fans need to be lost to offset the gain of new revenue streams from helmet/jersey ads, board ads, gambling cos, etc,..

every sports team should be owned by multi-billionaires who simply have too much money to spend and aren't looking to make an extra profit, but rather want to follow their passion and invest in an organization as a true fan of the game.

The guy works for the owners, and must be doing an ok job, or they would’ve fired him…..a long time ago.

yup, but as I pointed out earlier, as a successful but boring AF lawyer he isn't necessarily the best person to effectively promote the sport lol

well yeah, owners are happy as long as they're making a profit, and they'll gladly welcome new ways of incorporating advertisements if that can help them make additional revenue. doesn't mean that the sport itself is improving and that it's being promoted in the best way possible.

the game is exposed to more fans than ever. he has done his job and then some. i don't get the hate for him. he is doing exactly what the owners hired him to accomplish.

The problem is those guys measure their Richards by the size of their wallets. So they are all about making more and more money and hoarding it.

That is their mentality.

it isn't all bad that's for sure, games can be very entertaining, but that would be mostly due to the athletes involved, as they got much faster, stronger and more talented than before over time. there are significant issues though that aren't really being addressed, such as the turrible refereeing that has been going on for years now, or the obvious inconsistencies regarding player safety and how disciplinary measures are applied. it'll be harder for hockey to catch up to other pro sports in North America if they don't make these kinds of improvements, and if they don't try to make it more accessible to everyone.

I know, I'm basically hoping for "unicorn" millionaires that are all about philanthropy and the love of the game to get involved lol
