I think there is a rule in place where if there was a fight in the last five minutes of the game, the coach will get a the fine. - zazzle
That's it. The instigator is not automatically suspended, but they are automatically reviewed for a 1 game suspension; the coach is likewise fined $10k if the player is susbequently suspended.
It's rule 46.22: A player who is deemed to be the instigator of an altercation in the final five (5) minutes of regulation time or at anytime in overtime (see 46.12), shall be suspended for one game, pending a review of the incident.
When the one-game suspension is imposed, the Coach shall be fined $10,000 – a fine that will double for each subsequent incident.

Sandin sucks defensively so stop thinking he belongs on the shutdown pairing. If they were happy with his skill there they wouldn’t have bumped him to his opposite side onto the bottom pairing. That’s the one who will get sat Saturday I’m 99% certain of that.
So please, stop putting that defensive weakness onto the shutdown pairing.
Rielly Mete
Brodie Holl
Giordano Liljegren
That’s what Saturday's D will look like. They’re not going to break up and change the top 4 after a win. - Dozzer
Well, I'm not doing anything in real life, we're just talkin'... I said it wouldn't last. Obviously his first game back he's going to have reduced minutes, but eventually, Holl gets pushed down.
Sandin/Lilly have been good together, quite a bit better than you think.

Ty Voit has 28 PTS in 13 GP.
He continues to flirt with having the most productive D+2 OHL season in modern history.
He was a pandemic draftee, Dubas took a swing on a guy who missed that OHL season but showed loads of talent. Paying off so far. 5th round pick. |

Down for the Marlies.
I do believe they could take on a bottom pairing role but no, I don’t think Sandin is a true shut down d man and that’s what the second pairing needs.
Personally I’d like to see Giordano bumped up so Sandin could play the left side on the third pairing but it’s not happening for some reason |

Matthews instigated it with his douchebag between the legs move, up by 3 with less than 2 minutes left.
I’m sure the kids today may disagree, but you don’t pull that crap. |

In over 200 minutes together at 5v5 they were +5, which was one of the more successful pairings.
Sandin was involved with several good pairings - he was +4 with Dermott, +4 with Holl, and also one of the few defensemen who was plus with Lyubushkin (Brodie was +2; Sandin was +1; Rielly, for all we thought that was a good pairing, was even with him).
I don't think Sandin sucks defensively. I do think he missed the majority of training camp is having a slow start, and has also been moved more than anyone - having been bounced around with Gio, Rielly, Holl and Brodie in the first 11 games. He has spent the most time with Holl (-3) and given how poorly Holl has played, there's some projection onto Sandin from Holl's shadow, I think. Sandin is +2 with his second most paired partner, Giordano.
Different competition levels, I realize, but he is more than capable and should be in the lineup. He's a part of the future of our blueline, or if he isn't, he has to showcase his abilities so that he's not given away like Dermott was.

I hope you're kidding. You play horn-to-horn and whistle-to-whistle, and you try. If the other team is losing - waaaah boo. Suck it up and play better. I feel this way about all sports. You're playing to win - and if you think a 3 goal lead in the 3rd is safe for the Leafs, I have news (that you already know) for you.

The knock on him was that he was small, but when the pick was made the take on him was that he brimming with skill. Great passer, smart player, makes good decisions with the puck . . I don't recall what they said about his skating or shot, but I would imagine that given that he's 5'9 and 150lbs, his shot is likely not elite.

Dude.
There was less than two minutes left.
Hell, in the other game last night, with a three goal lead, a defenceman took a slapshot at the buzzer.
Everyone was shaking their heads - you just don't do that.
Weird tangent:
One of the best sports books I ever read was Next Man Up - A Year Behind the Lines in Today's NFL:
https://www.chapters.indi...AEgLywvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
The author writes that there's an unwritten agreement in the NFL that all the players adhere to - once the game is out of hand, nobody hits at 100%.

High IQ as well, Zuccurello type game.
regardless its nice to see a 5th round pick turn into a legitimate prospect, we likely see him on team USA at the WJC.
It is also worth noting Sarnia doesn't have much talent other than him. He is setting players up for tap ins. |

So I don't follow junior hockey, so this is a sincere question:
Is this a good thing, or is it more like becoming the all time AA home run hitter? |

It is a good thing. Debrincat in the same season scored 130 points in 65 games.
Will get him a spot on the WJC roster and we can see how he does there. |
