well in some rare cases I guess it could be logical, for example if your team needs a goalie and there's a talented prospect you're interested in then you could be tempted to grab him ahead of other guys, knowing that he won't be available the round after. but I guess that comes down to comparing a forward vs a goalie, which in itself is pretty hard to do.

well yeah, drafting goalies in the 2 first rounds doesn't happen too often.

not only for goalies, any positions. if they need centers or dmen.... they'll draft by position in rounds 2-3-4... like Habs did the past few years.
in the first round teams usually take the bpa.

even in the 2nd round drafing the BPA still makes more sense, since the chances of the player panning out and having success at the NHL level are technically higher. worst case scenario you can always trade him later if there's no available spot for him on the roster.

Well crunch time is rapidly approaching for HuGo......who gets traded, waived, sent down? Something has to give, and it is going to be a forward, with plenty of dead wood to choose from, eh

So i get back after the game, and what to see the early highlights. Does HNIC show any during the intermissions of the late game? Nope, just an exposition on Kevin Bieksa skating with the Canucks
