I find strange that Allen gets the start tomorrow.

We hear from everyone that Monteambault is doing great, that he reached another level but he is not playing much…

Are they showcasing Allen to move him?

- TheInformer697041

no no, burn out Allen until he is injured, once Montambeault is in charge, the team will be back in the race for a lottery pick. #asset management

Sounds reasonable for a guy who was 79 when he got his first Head Coaching job.

Hopefully Habs Management has a more structured decision making model than what you are referring to…. I just find their decisions not aligned with their narrative…

If Allen is expected to start 50 games...that means he gets 60% of the starts. Both netminders are playing above expectations, damn, both are in the top 10 in the league for saves above expectations, completely unsustainable. That's why the Habs are 2-3 pts above what we expected so far. Habs are a one line team with netminders playing over their head.

Where have you seen that 60% plan? I have not seen that but I may have missed it…

What I remember Is Saint-Louis saying that there was no defined plan and starts will be decided as they go…

50-50, 40-60.... don't care much. both are doing great
not too surprised about the plan being decided as they go. seems to be the way for the entire team tbh

play time is based on performance but just looking at their contracts it is clear Allen is the #1 so he should get the tougher starts and more starts. Looking at teams without a work horse, when both netminders are healthy, a 60/40 split is common, that's 50 starts for Allen, 32 for Montambeault. It's never that easy though, injuries, cold streak, all variables that you deal with as the season run its course.

they still need a top center to join Suzuki as a 1-2 punch down the middle. This is a fantastic year to do it, there are a few guys, all centers who could fill that role. Not the year to play above expectations...it's very important that they select in the top 5.

Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson, Benson, Dvorsky, Smith, Ritchie...all expected to be drafted in the first half of the 1st round but Fantilli is the guy I want, that means winning the lottery to pick #2 IMO

agreed 100%, good year for centers. they say the top 5 next June, would they have been eligible for the 2022 draft, would all have been taken before Slaf. that's how deep the next draft is.

they also need another winger.

of course he still has many years of hockey left in him, but at 26 we would've seen a bit of that #1 potential already. personally I don't see it at all anyway, style-wise I think Primeau has more chances of developing into a starter in the long run.
- Pat1993

You are right about Monty Pat, he really improved his speed this year but he really is playing at his best right now. Will turn out to be a decent backup which is more than fine. But I am sorry to say that but Primeau will probably be never be a regular in the NHL, there is just too many flaws in his game and most importantly, he isn't strong enough mentally and this is a major flaw for a goalie. Our best goalie prospect is Jakub Dobes who had a great year last season in the NCAA and he is doing well again this year while his saves % slightly dropped but there is only 10 games in so...

I think they will use their early 1st for a center and their late first (Florida) for a winger again. They did draft 2 wingers this past summer in the first round with Slaf and Mesar.

and Beck is looking fantastic in the OHL as a center.

you know who they just drafted who is also kicking ass...Lane Hutson.

8pts in 7 games, comments I heard/read are he is dominant. Still a couple years away but so far he is dominant on the ice.

they had to LOVE Mesar to take him before Beck (and some others)... a bit intriguing. so far he's done well though, good hockey head

Yeah Beck is looking great, he is a great surprise. Could be a good 3rd line center with upsides. As you pointed out earlier they need another C who could bring offense on the 2nd line and there is many in the upcoming draft. Not much available at the blueline next summer, Dunn is fine but not really top pairing material. Guess we will have to wait and keep developping our young dmen, adding Mailloux and Hutson to the lot.

Barron was doing good before his injury, this year he was really struggling even in the AHL but since he 2 goals game, he seems to be more poised. Time will tell in his case. Mailloux has a lot of tools, I just don't know how he will develop on the next level. Off the ice, he seems like he learned his lesson but it's too early to tell...

we have to be patient with those kids though, Habs have a few prospects doing very well, it's now all about being drafted and making the NHL right away, most of those kids will take 2-3 yrs to reach the NHL, some longer after being drafted at 18yrs old.

His skating is already NHL caliber though, saw a few clips of him and he is really good but NCAA level is so meh that you just don't know how it will translate to the NHL speed.
