The referring yesterday was worst than that department…
The strangest was giving that penalty shot after the player was able to breakaway and get a shot on Allen…. I am still trying to understand this one…. If he scores, do they allow the goal and give the penalty shot over that? - TheInformer697041
good question, I know it was stated that the chance to score didn't cancel the deserving penalty shot, but I'm guessing if he scored then no, they wouldn't have called one. |

So he got 2 chances to score when the penalty shot is there to ensure you get one…

I think the logic is that on the initial chance during the play he was prevented from fully getting that chance, hence the penalty shot.

Doesn't matter Pat.
Look at Tkachuk trying to take a goaltender's eye out, he has a history, still got 2 games.
The department of player's safety is a joke. - Scabeh
I get in a game that moves as fast as NHL hockey, there are going to be calls made because of that which are somewhat subjective. There needs to be a progressively harder punishment for repeat offenders, but that will likely not happen in my lifetime.
Overall, there is a clear lack of coherent consistency... it is like goalie interference, you just never (frank)ing know how that is gonna be called.

«A two-game suspension cost #Habs Josh Anderson $59,459.46 in forfeited salary and will cost Juraj Slafkovsky $10,270.28 -- all the money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund. »
… to help pay the psychologist and dope cost of another past NHL offender…
So some guys can end up getting a payback over the fines they pay…. |

24.8 Infractions – Refer to the Reference Tables – Table 11 – Summary of
Penalty Shots (page 143) for a list of the infractions that shall result in
a penalty shot being awarded (see specific rule numbers for complete
descriptions).
There are four (4) specific conditions that must be met in order for
the Referee to award a penalty shot for a player being fouled from
behind. They are:
(i) The infraction must have taken place in the neutral zone or attacking
zone, (i.e. over the puck carrier’s own blue line);
(ii) The infraction must have been committed from behind;
(iii) The player in possession and control (or, in the judgment of the
Referee, clearly would have obtained possession and control of the
puck) must have been denied a reasonable chance to score ( the fact
that he got a shot off does not automatically eliminate this play from
the penalty shot consideration criteria. If the foul was from behind and
he was denied a “more” reasonable scoring opportunity due to the
foul, then the penalty shot should be awarded);
(iv) The player in possession and control (or, in the judgment of the
Referee, clearly would have obtained possession and control of the
puck) must have had no opposing player between himself and the
goalkeeper. |

It's a judgement thing, I guess the ref judged that he would have got a better scoring chance whitout Dach's slash

Just try to speak French in Alberta and you will see how systemic it is… - TheInformer697041
Fun fact, there are a few French communities that come to mind in AB, St. Paul and Beaumont (just outside of edm), there could be more.
The stop signs are even bilingual.. |

There's a ref that got assaulted after a cegep football game in my town a couple of weeks ago. I'm not one to piss on them after them when they have a little fun after all they have to put with. |

It's actually a "can't lose" situation.
We win? Great! Winning is important!
We lost? Great! We're getting closer to a high pick!
We lost in OT: Well at least we don't have the whole Ducharme "running around in circles with defensive players until we lose the puck and lose the game" anymore!
We lost in the shootout: We lost but did you see that nice Caufield goal?!?
This year is gonna be great!

I agree 100%, I just find it's sad and kind of annoying that a lot of fans will consider this a failure if they win too many games, as though to say "these kids, they played too well this year, and now they have ruined the team's future..."
