Vinzenz Rohrer is actually very interesting. He missed this upcoming draft by a week and has been one of the best players for my 67's. Top line RW, plays smart. Sleeper player.
- AdamFrench

huh, he was drafted 75th overall... never heard that name in my life lol

After kk and Galchenyuk, not sure I'm all wet for a top pick. It's still a lotery.

They already have another first round pick as we speak for 2023.

I would argue those are "anomalies" more than anything, it isn't because the habs drafted poorly in the past that this trend will continue with the new management team. Hughes and Gorton seem to know what they're doing.

Why though? Let's just do top-5

Winners who had guys play significant roles

Col - MacKinnon (1) Landeskog (2), Makar (4)
Tampa - Stamkos (1), Hedman (2)
St. Louis - Pietrangelo (4), Bouwmeester (3)
Caps - OV (1) and Backstrom (4)
Pens - Crosby (1), Malkin (2), Fleury (1), I just you can add Staal at (2) as well
Blackhawks - Kane (1), Toews (3)
Kings - Doughty (2), Gaborik (2)
Bruins - Seguin (2)

It's better to have them than not.

Nothing is ever guaranteed, but hoping a bunch of random prospects doing well are a better salve than a draft with 2 generational scorers and 5-7 guys who are performing in the Eichel level seems short sighted for a team that will be having huge roster turnover over the next few years.

They may already have that guy in Monahan... let's see hw the season goes.
- Mashadar

There's also the very likely possibility that P-L Dubois becomes available to us as a UFA in 2 years.

oh I'm not saying the habs should settle for later picks and that drafting higher is irrelevant, just that with proper development you can get the most out of the players you drafted.

Right... a big strong talented centre who's a local kid that actually really wants to play in Montreal and will be 26 years old as a UFA.

Terrible option.

they wouldn't have surpassed all expectations and become amazing players but I have a feeling that establishing a more solid plan for them could've helped them tremendously... we'll never know I guess lol.

but yeah, some picks are just bad picks, and it simply falls on the player.

Chucky (and likely KK) should have been left in the minors for at least another year.

Chucky missed most of the previous year with a knee injury, another year learning to play center as he developed would have made a significant difference. He also needed that time outside the MTL spotlight to mature.

I think they could have been really solid middle 6 forwards with better development.

ouin je pense pas que Drouin va jouer un role significatif dans une conquête de la coupe a mtl

Monahan reste un long shot. Il pourrait quitter aussi d'ici la fin de la saison

One game, sure, but I liked Monahan and Anderson creating havoc out there against the Pens. That was a lot of fun to watch.

I am on the fence wrt trading him or trying to sign him TBH. He has been a lot better than I expected, even if the points don't reflect that, I wonder how that might change with consistent linemates that can produce.
