The Werenski injury really evens it out a bit, but having Laine and JG should propel Columbus ahead of the Flyers.
- jd250

Laine out 3-4 weeks.

Torts does get credit for being the first coach in RR's career to call a turd a turd.

I do hope this continues. Less minutes than Seeler yesterday.

Weird that TDA gets so much PK time at the expense of Sanheim and Braun.

And RR not even killing penalties anymore at all, which must make Chuck feel proud.

To be fair to Risto, he's not a defensive defenseman.

Laczynski demoted and Willman promoted. That should fix a team ranked 31st in goals per game that only have one line who can score.

Tortorella's opinion of analytics since arriving at Flyers must've only gotten lower. The Flyers crack analytics squad has Risto ranked high.

Or more than likely the GM ignores their data.

I'm not sure what a lot of you guys are seeing. The moves that Fletcher made have put the team on the path to the Cup. The team's culture was changed. Tortorella identified that the team had a splintered locker room and has taken steps to fix that. This is a team that won't be outworked and plays with max effort with players like McEwen and Deslaurier leading the way. The team is just experiencing growing pains right now on the way to being one of the elite teams in the league.

Torts does cite "scoring chances" numbers a lot. Probably the one column from their game reports that he doesn't throw back on their faces. He's likely got that entire department cowering in their cubicles.

Torts has said that scoring chances for and against are what’s important to him. So the analytics guys will focus on that and the subjective aspects of high danger and low danger chances. One would hope that the organization is interested in a wider array of things that they look at.

Samsonov was just fine until he was injured.

This isn't the leaf blog so talk about the flyers. I'd also like to see the flyers sell a bunch of players off but that's coming from a fan of seeing trades. I just like trades.

They do appear to be more sound system wise in the last few games, but other teams are also rounding into form. I like the effort…at least they are watchable….what it is to be a current fan. Torts said basically analytics are for the most part garbage. True some are, but I don’t think he really thinks that. I mean the eye test matches a lot of the analytical numbers anyway.

He’s been ok….and although a Flyer blog, it is still hockey. I actually have Murray in one of my pools, so I am hoping my expertise on goaltending proves out. I to look forward to some trades….I think another month or so there could be quite a few.

Not that watchable to me. They stand around the defensive zone. Have little creativity offensively. I see much of the same from the last few years. Plain boring style that is not conducive to any winning. Old outdated ideas and coach clichés.

I can watch a less talented team as long as they look like they care. I really didn’t see a lot of that last year….when a team is mailing in efforts, I lose interest. This year there’s at least that….I’m not delusional, it’s still not a great product but after how many decades? It’s a tough habit to break.

I expect the same cast of characters to "mail" it in at some point like they did last year. One the new coach adrenaline wears off and the losing sets in.

Well as a fan on the outside who doesn't fully know the flyers or their team goals from management there's only a few.

Braun
JVR

Those two have expiring contracts so if you're not a playoff team come the deadline those two for sure. If the team is looking to re-tool and not full rebuild I'd consider Atkinson only because he has a large contract and maybe TDA.

If it's a full rebuild I'd keep Risto because 1. according to posts here he's bad so he'll help the tank and 2. He is a NHL player just highly overpaid, and you need guys in the line who've played before. Can't just hand it all to the kids and expect good development from them. 3. I think it would cost too much to get rid of him.

I picked him up in my fantasy league too because the leafs are good enough to get wins regardless of who is the goalie, see Kallgren.

I was doing a thing in the leafs blog and I think early contenders to get a trade done would be Chicago, st. louis, Anaheim. Could be a few others but like Nashville is terrible right now but they clearly see themselves as a playoff team so they won't sell anyone until they are completely out and even then it won't be anything but expiring contracts.

Also for the leafs, Muzzin is out with a cervical spine injury. They will re-evaluate in February but from what I googled. He should be done with his career. So maybe trades?

Most non playoff teams to try to move their UFA. So you would consider Atkinson? What market do you think there is for a guy who is hurt and has 2 years left at over 5 million.

So in other words they will move the 2 that they are expected to move.

So talking about other NHL teams/ NHL stuff in a Flyers blog is now frowned upon?
