You are blaming the analytics department for players they had nothing to do with drafting, other than starting last year. This is Adams team, starting next year other than Power you can start ripping them. |

Might not correlate to wins, but the bottom 10 in hits probably are top 10 in puck possession and maybe expected goals for? - Ratsreign

When JW doesn’t disagree with you, you know everyone is questioning it.
He has always been the don’t need a big guy leader of the pack.
Or the Jeremy is also apathetic about the Sabres and just doesnt care. - ImThatGuy
I would say, before anything else Jeremy believes in the "great man theory" of hockey. So, when I say, "protect our two great players" he can latch on to that. Imagine if that was 25, 26, or 72 getting boarded last night. There goes the season. And, there goes the season if Dahlin breaks his hand fighting. The goon helps both problems. |

Haven't ever really dug into expected goals, but there does seem to be a correlation between the bottom10 hitters and high CF%. Think it depends on gameplan really, some teams are top10 in both (NYR/CAL)
Based on Stattrick for CF% at 5v5:
1) Carolina
2) Jersey
3) Florida
6) Sabres
10) Colorado
The Flames and Calgary are #4 and #5 respectively though, so it doesn't always hold true. But it's logical...the more time you spend possessing the puck, the less time you will have to hit opponents. - QuinnFan

One thing unmentioned in the hitting talk. Yes, NJD are second to last in hits; however, they throw 33% more hits than Buffalo every game. - lacaprup
It has been mentioned multiple times, and again at the end of page 34, by Lunaion. |

My mistake then. I apologize, but I'll never say I'm sorry! So take that. |

Ventura and analytics do not care about hitting.
Rasmus glue asplund is a fine example. - Boss34
Which players were added under Ventura? The Eichel trade (Tuch), Lyubushkin, and Vinny (a depth guy). 2 of their most physical players.
When you look at it, the shocking thing is how many JB guys are still here. KA (Ventura) haven't made their mark yet.

I was screaming at the TV last night at Cozens, it was a perfect opportunity to show support for a brother and to get some excitement back in the team.
Epic Fail... - hehateme
He fought a few times last year too. Why he didn’t do anything last night was weird to me to.

Who wants to bet me that Brinson Karmanos Ventura had more to do with getting that Vegas and Eichel deal done than Adams. Brinson got that deal done, Brinson and Karmanos have known each other for a long time. |

All I want to know is who thought Peyton Krebs was a 1C. Fire that person yesterday. |

In Cozens defense he did hurt his hand the other night in the scuffle in front. He was twisting and icing it in the Box. Could be a factor. |

Could the Sabres hit more ? Absolutely.
Bigger issues at the moment:
Special teams is comical.
Goaltending ever since game 11 has been awful (although last night it was fine).
They are playing well at 5v5 but they are not getting enough 2nd and 3rd chance opportunities which is a reason why they are shooting lower than expected.
Although the Sabres are 4th in goals scored and offensively grade out well, they give up 50000000 odd man rushes/breakaways a game and their team defence has been poor since the Samuelsson injury.
The Sabres could hang their hat on the fact they were going punch for punch with the leagues elite at the beginning of the losing streak, but the last two nights were ugly no matter how you slice it.

Guy has the talent, tearing that Achilles really hurt his development. He's got the Heart, but he looks smaller than my Daughter. Gets swallowed up on the forecheck. He needs to be with players that can go get the puck, feed him and then go to the net or find a whole. Fantastic passer, just hasn't found those linemates yet. |

Everyone stocked on groceries? I am assuming 2 feet minimum, but prepping for 6. I'm trying to decide if I want to buy my Thanksgiving groceries now and risk the produce not being fresh. I love my organic greens and fruit, but they go bad in two days. Though, I suppose if it's so bad I can't go to the grocer by next Wednesday, then we're probably not hosting dinner Thursday.
This is going to be a fun week. maybe I'll start drinking again. pass the eggnog. |

He gets to the net and doesn't avoid contact, so I think there's hope that he'll grow into his potential. Just a kid playing vs men atm.
Mitts and VO just block everyone atm. Terrible defensive pair that just won't work with Krebs. It's just an awkward lineup to work with and he is suffering from it.

Resigned tage, samuelsson and olo.... maybe gave girgensons/ asplund extensions
They become KA's guys when he resigned them.
Same for Ventura IMO |

C'mon man.
169 hits ....better teams have 350 -450.
If it was 169 to 183...ok.

It is logical.
That said, Sabres are 53.1% CF, not 85%..the other 46.9% maybe they could actually hit the opposition. Make it tough on the other team.
Also, make the opposition fear going towards the slot/crease...make it very unpleasant for them...and attack the opponents slot.
So friggin basic IMO. - IonSabres
Absolutely. This has been beat up a bit since my last post, but I think Lun said we need more tenacity, I'd say aggressiveness but same idea.
Being tougher in front of the net, closing gaps defensively, boxing guys out better and driving the net are all things that would help this team immensely. They need to attack, to be more aggressive in all situations.
None of those things show up in the hits column though, that's all. More of a nitpick of the stat than a disagreement of an overall toughness sentiment. I'm not sure toughness can be quantified unfortunately and that's what we need as you say. |

Resulting from perimeter shooting and few players crashing the net. Playing tough.
