At least you'll be eligible for some assurance emploi while you're looking for a new gig.

I'm not too worried about you though, you're a smart guy and there's jobs recruiting everywhere.

now you're in shock, but you'll soon realize that it is exactly that. a chance to reorient your life. maybe you'll want to stay the course, maybe youll want to do something completely different. either way, this is a chance, grab it. I would even say enjoy it!
every day they talk about how there's a pénurie de main d'oeuvre, so no worries. un gars qui veut travailler, il va trouver 2-3 jobs facile. sometimes better ones than what he had, or closer to home....

Yeah, I'll look for a company with a pension plan if possible. I have some money on the side (RRSP, TFSA) but at this rate I'll have to work in my 70's

Nah. Just have to have some confidence in yourself and make things happen.

I got laid off in 2009, markets tanked, divorced and had very little to my name. 12 years later retired. Just take control of your money and your situation. It can be done.
