If a team offers a 3rd rounder I would pull the trigger. Anything less and I would wait until the deadline.

They should have a game were the D plays O and the O plays D.
- mickel25

I understand you are being facetious, but if they are determined to keep Cates at center do you really think Hayes is a better solution at 1C then Laughts?

Edit: Based on this year's performance, Laughts has been more engaged then ever and Hayes is right back to "Ole whenever he gets near someone he should be defending

Tonight's forward lineup....

Tippett-Hayes-Konecny
Laughton-N. Cates-Farabee
Willman-Frost-MacEwen
Deslauriers-Sedlak-Bellows

Oh well, just forget about all that talk of giving Frost a chance.

Tank Silent, Tank Deep.

I’d actually like to see Braun moved up next to Provorov on the top pair. I’d like DeAngelo off the PK completely. I think DeAngelo has gotten too lucky at this point in the defensive zone. I thought that shorthanded goal on Sunday was damning when DeAngelo didn’t even try to defend the scorer. I think DeAngelo might be alright next to Sanheim, although I don’t think Sanheim is the same player we saw last season.

Figuring out what is up with Sanheim should be a priority IMO.

Could Seeler or MacEwan get them a late round pick at the deadline?
- mickel25
Seeler I think it is possible. ZM nope.

What a stubborn coach. Loves him some average Laughton.

Waive Bellows and Frost at this point. Call up Brown and AA in a few days.

Neither player should be playing center on the top line. I think Laughton is clearly the better defensive player. I also think TK and Tippett would suffer offensively playing with Laughton.

Dubas will have to be aggressive in what ever he does…he’s running out of chances. The kid Lyubushkin that went to Buffalo was a great fit last year…a cheap version of Risto. They need something…their back end sucked even before Muzzin went down. I think he was good when he first got to TO but really has struggled the last year or so. Maybe it was injury related because I think he’s been awful for a while.
- landros 2

He played really well in the playoffs last year but the regular season he wasn't very good. Muzzin I mean.

It's about 20 games into the season. No reason for a GM to be aggressive yet. Any GM really. They have Brodie on IR right now so likely to wait until he comes back and assess the D corps as a whole first.

Not buying it as the coach imo truly thinks this is the best lineup he put out on the ice.

He is now a full fledged member of the country club now he got his long term deal. Should have 100% been dealt.

Why can't they swap Cates and Frost? Frustrating
- mickel25

My guess is that like all coaching staffs before, MF is not up to the task.
That he would get worked more than Cates who, we know isn't a center.
He has not shown one coaching staff (3), only this board, that he can handle going against a bonafide second line center.

Edit:
I would like to see him switched with Laughton and Cates move to wing...
Still just don;t think he is up to it.

And just like that.... The BFF line has been vaporized before it had a chance to play.

Incorrect. Frost won over Yeo in the latter part of last season and was praised extensively with only a caveat (also given to Tippett) to not blend when things are going against the team but to keep playing with the confidence he'd been showing. In his final presser as head coach, Yeo said Frost had come a long way and seemed ready to break out .

He's not used to playing without Ristolainen as his partner to stabilize play lol....

In all seriousness though, I think he's trying to play outside his normal game, and it's making him uncomfortable. He's more involved physically this year, and that doesn't come naturally to his game. He's tall, but lacking in strength the way he gets manhandled in his attempts to be physical.

I know I am in the minority here, but I actually really like Willman as a depth player. Problem is the Flyers already have quite a few depth players in the lineup. They also have several middle lineup forwards playing up. All while trying to develop young forwards and get them established.

It’s tough, but it is still an opportunity for him so I hope he makes the best of it.

Winning over a coach and playing as a 2C are two different issues.
In looking at the lineup again, I would like to see him get a chance with a better supporting line that could finish.
Switch Laughton to 3C and move Cates to wing.
That would give him a chance to possibly shine.

I agree that it seems he has room to get stronger still. He does look uncomfortable at times, not sure if he is in his own head or what.

It’s an good idea, unless they want to keep Cates at center. Maybe they swap centers at times tonight to see how it looks.

The coach continues to put square pegs into round holes hoping they'll work their way in. Cates is not a center. Doesn't handle the puck or skate the puck well enough. His strength is as a forechecking winger who grinds and can chip in offense. He refuses to give Frost some skilled linemates. Overplays stiffs like McEwen and Deslauriers. My open mind on Tortorella is rapidly closing.

It’s clear as day the Flyers should trade Frost. The organization isn’t going to change. They’ve showed us this numerous times.

Do right by the kid and unload him.

He's not a fit here. He doesn't play Flyers hockey. Always trying to make a skill play. He needs to show that he can play away from the puck. Dump some pucks in the corner and then chase it down and take the body. Mix it up between the whistles. Cross check a few guys. Drop the mitts to try and fire up the team. Make a hit that rattles the boards and get the crowd ooohhing. Chip some pucks off the glass. Only then once he proves he can play Flyers hockey. Will he get a chance to use his skill and talent.
