Who knows. He has played well tonight. I get nothing but disgusted in watching the Flyers. Watching players getting ice time that shouldn't be on the team. On a team going no where. Every time I see Deslauriers on the ice I get pissed off. What an absurd, ridiculous signing. - MJL
I canโt even muster up the energy to be upset by it. |

The importance of the regulation loss cannot be over stated. The loser points must be kept to a minimum. |

I don't think you could try to defend any worse than these guys. |

Would you blame him if he did a Roman Cechmanek at center ice? |

Nah, this is a different team this year. More fun to watch.
Not sure why so many after being fans for a long time don't know that the first 10 games or so don't mean much. Teams are still feeling their way into the season. |

All good for me. There is actually franchise altering talent at the top of this draft. I cannot wait to see MacEwan, Deslaurais, and Brown get plenty of ice time.

Totally get where you are coming from, as this happened last year as well. Sorry but I'm a Flyers fan and there's always going to be part of me that hopes they put forth a competitive effort and provide me with entertaining games to watch. Like you and others have said, I'd like to see Cates, Tippett, and Frost together as I liked what I saw near the end of last year but Torts is Torts. I don't see the need for ND and Zack in the lineup, but who do you suggest get ND's 8 minutes? Let's say they bring up Tanner again or J Cates...then we will complain they don't get enough ice time. Finally, why do you watch if you hate this team so much?

I see that as another fallacy. Look at Edmonton. How long have they had McDavid and Draisaitl? How close have they gotten? When TB drafted Stamkos and Hedman. It wasn't until they built the team around them that they broke free. Even if the Flyers are lucky enough to draft a stud. This GM is going to successfully build the team around that player? The same clown GM who traded for and re-signed Ristolainen? Signed Deslauriers to a 4 year deal?

Put the young players in the lineup and play them. I don't hate the Flyers. I hate the way the team is run.

Well EDM got to the conference finals with the GM who did not draft them. Stamkos and Hedman were the foundation the franchise was built. Have to start getting elite talent. No doubt Fletcher will not be here when the team is good. However, TB and Edmonton drafted those foundation pieces because of bad GM moves. Sure looks like the Flyers have accomplished that task. |

What I'm saying is don't expect a quick turn around. We're looking at 7-10 years if we're lucky to become a legit cup contender.

I would agree and this is the draft to have worst record. I understand this will be a long process. So I want Brown, Deslaurais, and MacEwan to get plenty of ice time this season. Unleash Risto. This is not the season for moral victories. I'll take as many 4-1 losses as possible this season and never complain about it. |

You may be right. With adding useless
players to fat contracts. They have no room to add quality FA guys. |

Got it. I agree about the young players as that is what I want to see. I was hoping Torts would back up his statement about playing the kids but sadly that's not the case.
I don't really follow the Phantoms, but last I checked, there's not much depth there either, plus, as I said, it's pointless to bring someone up to play limited minutes. You know they will be playing Anisimov sooner than later so that's something to look forward to

If you catch Torts in the right mood/ right day, he can be very expansive with little prompting. Give him an open ended question, and he'll give a thorough answer from all the angles.
Wrong mood or wrongly worded question -- negatively worded, circling back after a question was dismissed, simply not in the mood to talk -- will not yield anything productive. Rule Number 1 is that Torts can negatively critique a player but he's going to get his back up if given a negatively worded question. Keep it open ended.
If Torts is set off, the rest of the media availability usually becomes a series of one word to one sentence answers. That's why pregame availability on Saturday before the Ottawa game ran a total of 65 seconds. Torts didn't speak before Sunday's game against Dallas.
Sam Carchidi had every right to ask Torts about leaving without speaking following the game in Columbus last Thursday. Torts had the right to answer with a basic no comment. On one hand, snarling "None of your business" predictably triggered a PHWA complaint to the NHL. On the flip side, it also wasn't hard to predict that starting the presser with asking about Thursday would torpedo the rest of the session. Once Torts goes off, he rarely shifts gears back to "expansive/ collegial" mode.
It is what it is. Mike Yeo is exceedingly easy to deal with. AV would turn on the charm to say what we wanted to say for as long as he wanted to say it, then would want to end it ASAP. Gordo was great with the Flyers press. Hak was always guarded. Chief was right-to-the-point and serially honest but also had a great sense of humor on an average day. Lavy wasn't much for joking around and had his fair game and off-limits questions but would provide just enough.
Torts is, well, Torts. He really isn't a bad person -- at all -- but he can very easy or very difficult, and he sets the rules of engagement daily. - bmeltzer
Sounds like he need some drugs to balance those mood swings
