well if he actually brings the offense and helps the PP, that won't hurt for sure

And his career negative numbers don’t support defensiveness...

Fair enough.

But why would Pitt trade him for Petry?

I don’t follow the trades that much, is he broken, over paid?

I know you were never a fan, but Petry has been a much better dman throughout his career lol, especially offensively, the hope in PIT was that he came back to his old ways after that poop season last year.

Fan or not and all of that set aside, I don’t understand how they trade an able bodied player for a broken one..

well Petry was healthy, no? it wasn't such a huge gamble to think he'd regain his confidence with a new team imho

Petry has a few 40+ pts seasons. His best season was 46 points.

Matheson has a few 27 pts seasons. His best season has been 31pt. Once.

That's why I expected more of a two way defenseman.

Cause those numbers are not as good as Petry

Then again, mtl probably traded Petry at the right time but you never know

look at Karlson this year coming back to life. poop happens.

Petry is better than Matheson, Pens go all in for the next 2-3 years while their top3 are still (or are they?) able to produce.
good trade for Mtl imo since Matheson is 6 years younger and signed to a better deal. and a local boy.

that contract goes on for a while

if san jose retain salary, I could see it

Toronto did retain a lot of Phil Kessel salary when they traded him and look what happened after that

that was a huge win for Pitts in the end

Holy Jesus.

My question is:

Why would they trade an able bodied Petry for a broken Matheson?

Salary??
