how much..? he's got 11.5M per year until 2027, that's insane.
- Pat1993

Well, we're already in 2022, lol

If they retain around 4M a year untill the end of the contract....why not?

Did you see how much points Karlson has so far this season?

That's also insane for a defenseman.

but his play has literally fallen off a cliff before that, I don't think he magically came back and is now ready to go for the next 5 years, he has a heavy injury history. personally I find it would make no sense whatsoever.

it would be a gamble, sure

but he has been a special player in the past. And he is right now.

24 pts in 18 games for a defenseman....10 goals already

and he's 32, not 38....

Sometimes you have to take a gamble to get a special player like that

cause you can't draft Cale Makar at the end of every season

Yeah, fountain of youth for a few weeks to start the season and maybe fully healthy for the first time in a long time, but will it carry on to the second half? Next year? 3 years from now?

Those were some major injuries and years of decline.

Unlikely he can keep it up.

If he does, good for him, but I would not risk taking on that contract for 6-7 million a year, if the Shark eat a chunk of it.

yup, too many red flags, and even if he does by some miracle continue on this production for an extended period of time, other GMs won't regret not pulling the trigger on the trade, because it wasn't worth the risk at the time.
