this

you don't want a rookie or kids you have hope for to be a 7th d. Those kids need to play in the NHL or in Laval. Anywhere but the stands.

Wideman just need to be in the right chair

not sure for how long

the everyone is equal and rotate is not really a thing

having Wifi as a 7th d would make zero sense

Won't be for long, something will give soon.

While I would rather see an Edmundson trade (not because I hate the guy, just because he might have some value, trade him before he gets hurt again, and won't be around when really needed), I suspect WiFi to Laval is what will happen.

Would be cool if they sent him down to learn to lead the PP and work on his offensive skills a little, as the primary focus for him there. Expand on what they are trying to do in MTL, but with more freedom to just let him be out there for a lot more minutes.

there's always injuries. if not you rotate the 4 kids, no problem. Wideman can join Pitlick in Laval.

The problem with that, is the AHL is also filled with cast offs and goons who can't play in the NHL any more. If we're worried about WiFi getting hurt in an NHL fight, the chances are actually worse for that in the AHL, IMO.

He is not going to Laval to fight.

He has to learn how to lead the power play from the point, and work on his offensive skills (not only how to create more offence, but learn when to pinch and not to pinch, etc...) if he wants to keep growing as a player and find a permanent place in MTL with significant ice time and impact.

That will not happen in MTL.

Putting him in bubble wrap and sitting him in the press box is not going to help.

why not?
what stops MSL to give the PP to the kids?
they're the future, management said multiple times to #1 objective this year is development.

of course he's not going to Laval to fight, but if you think many want to try him in the NHL... wait and see how many they will be in the AHL lol
and he's not staying on the bench as the 7th D either. they are smarter than that.

good point, to be honest I'd rather have all the young dmen that were there with the habs since the start of season continue to play in MTL, they've been more than impressive and have definitely earned the ice time, but I'm aware it isn't really possible.

with Matheson, Edmundson and Savard in the lineup you're still gonna have an odd man out.

yep, they are 4 kids if you count Kovacevic. rotate them. no problem. even a good thing to watch from upstairs every once in awhile.
and injuries happen all the time.

I agree this rotation thingy isn't such a turrible idea, we'll see if the habs actually decide to go that route.

if not, you keep Wideman and send a kid (or 2) to Laval. no problem there either.

perhaps he'll get picked up if there are teams currently looking for a somewhat decent 7th D, but oh well, it is what it is lol.

zero important. only 1 year left after this one, minimum salary so burried and not counting on the cap... couldn't care less if he gets claimed or not.

8 D on the roster is the issue.

So if a player have to go down, especially as injured players are coming back, seems more likely that WiFi is the odd man out. And if that is the. case, then he can take that time to learn to be on the PP and enhance his offensive skills.
