Did you see the pass he made to Hayes last night? (I could cite about 15 other plays this season, as well). Tortorella himself said that there's a good NHL player in there with Frost; the issue is how to bring that out in him more consistently.
Absolutely NOT a question of talent or "not good enough". - bmeltzer
The same goes for Ratcliffe, although to this point he hasn’t shown anywhere close to what even Frost has done. He dominated in his last year of JR. I watched a bunch of games that year…he’s not a one trick pony. He see’s the ice really well and despite his size gets around pretty good and always seemed to find that scorers area The guy scored 50 in the O….that’s not an easy thing to do. It requires a ton of skill. The fact they aren’t sure what they should develop him into at this point borders on incompetence. Let the kid go to another organization and at least give him a chance. |

That has been the major problem for a long time now. They have basically gotten nothing after the first round for over 20 years. The lack of development is an organizational issue not a specific GM issue. - mickel25
That is why I used the word franchise.

This next season will be critical to see what has come from Fletcher and Flahr's picks, given York, Foerster and Andrae and Brink should all be ready for prime time. - jd250
Honestly, do any of those guys have a snowball's chance in hell of becoming at least decent building blocks like TK, Provy and Hart?
We've already seen that York is gonna have a tough time dealing with Torts. Andrae brings more Torts stuff to the table, but 5'8 is a hell of an obstacle to overcome for a dman. If Foerster can't score in bunches, Torts will treat him like Bellows. And Brink is talented but he's already dealing with major injury.
No other names from 2019 and 2020 are likely to make an impact. 2021 is basically a write-off already with how hopeless Tuomaala looks.
All Fletch/Flahr's eggs are in the Cutter basket now. |

Been saying it since he was drafted...just cant skate well enough to play in NHL...4th line player this year with Phantoms...forget about him - hfc355
I thought he skated just fine in his games last year….sure he’s not Paul Coffee like, but he was not behind the pace at all. |

Here's a thought for a player development strategy for the Flyers. Emphasize a player's strengths and let him be the player he is going to be. Doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't work to improve weaknesses. Don't tie a RH players RH behind his back and tell him he has to play LH. |

But the Flyers way of forcing a square peg through a round hole has had such a great track record for us!
I seriously have to wonder what goes on with our development/scouting departments. The scouts must hate watching them do this to guys. |

Lot of pressure on one pick. Although being in NCAA away from this organization for a couple of years is probably a good thing. Also hoping they uncovered a solid D man in Ethan Samson…has a chance to crack Canada’s JR squad this year and is having a stellar season out in the WHL. A big kid with some decent offensive skill. |

Absolutely NOT a question of talent or "not good enough". - bmeltzer Yes, that was a great pass, but the problem remains with me that he seems to be invisible most games. I thought he played well against the Avs, but then there are stretches of games where nothing happens. He's being given a fair chance now and he needs to make the most of it or the sand in the hour glass is going to run out at some point. I really think Torts is giving MacEwen more ice time in some games to show Frost how hard he competes. Frost just doesn't seem to have the compete level. Perhaps I'm misguided. I mean, I notice Tippett much more than Frost.

Samson is definitely the lone glimmer of hope from that draft. |

Frost has the talent, no doubt. But where is the desire? Where is the consistency? Is that on the coach or the development staff to bring that out in him or is it on Frost to show up ready to play each and every game, each and every shift? There are too many talented players in this league who do not need coaches or development staff to push that out of them, they have the compete level and the drive to do that on their own. When I heard Torts say this about Frost I knew then Frost is not going to be part of the solution here, because it shouldn't be on the coaches to bring that out in him, it should be on Frost! |

You may be right, though I think York will be a good player in this league for many years and Torts will help his development immensely. But that was my point, is it a player development issue or are the Flyers just drafting bad players. I used to be very confident in Hextall, because I thought draft wise he and his staff were the smartest people in the room. I was wrong. We saw time and time again over the 5 drafts he had how many players he missed on. When Fletcher came here I also thought he and Flahr drafted well in Minnesota and he would do well here. Well, next year is the year, either these players are playing and playing well for the Flyers or its just another nail on Fletcher's coffin. |

Oh Christ….next year? There’s already enough “nails” in the coffin. Fletcher’s inability to take the Flyers to that next level beyond what Hextall left is painfully obvious every single night they play. It’s not yesturday…it’s “4” years ago. That was literally his mandate….all he’s delivered is excuses. What’s even scarier is he continues to double down on his stupid decisions that’s going to make his eventual successor’s job all the more tough.

It's been a combo of bad development, questionable picks and horrible injury luck. The Flyers trifecta.
I don't see much from Flahr's draft history to instill much confidence. Kaprisov was a stroke of luck, not something that can be easily replicated. The rest of his picks were meh. |
