This was a trade I thought of 3-4 weeks ago and it won't leave my mind:

To Arizona

Alex DeBrincat, Lassi Thomson, Erik Brannstrom*, Nikita Zaitsev (40% salary retained by Sens), 2023 1st (Top 2 protected), 2024 1st (can modify this pick, if Sens make playoffs, or win a round, otherwise goes to 2025)

To Ottawa

Clayton Keller, Jakob Chychrun

*Brannstrom could be swapped with Jacob Bernard Docker or Roby Jarventie

Big positive about this trade is Sens obviously get $ assurance but also no one is bound by trade clauses

Sens are tied for 2nd last in the East though. Even after some recent success.

Put themseves in a huge hole coming out of the gate.

But, they have looked so really good recently.

Any player who does not give full commitment to our cause must sit on the bench beside Thomas Chabot. Chabot will administer severe discipline by using his hockey stick to whack the slacker with a severe blow to his head and shoulders.

I don’t know how y’all feel about Gus. He had a really rough start for us. But he’s been solid his last 8 starts and better than MAF. He stole one for us tonight and happy to see him get his 1st career shutout.
- Minnyhock

I watched most of that game last night. I remember betting against him a few times last year. Nice to see him get a shutout. He really stole that game for MIN.

Just read DeBrincat is on pace for 68 points...his career average. if you think about the number of A+ chances he has missed, maybe he will still put up some great numbers before the end of season.

Last night DeBrincat, with Pinto and Batherson was dangerous on every shift.

He really stunned Hamonic there lol. If you're gonna take out your rage on inanimate objects, best clear a radius to limit collateral damage.

I agree with your assessment.

But my concern is paying this guy $9m! He will get that as a Q.O too right? So his demand as a UFA will likely be around the same range (8-9.5m). That's crazy high for a guy that's not even on our top line. Would it not be best to trade him? maybe built the market up at the deadline

This is a haha right 🫣
Noway in hell I’d make that trade
We need a stay at home defender not Chychrun
You wanna trade 2 first Debrincat Thomson Brannstrom or JBD and Zeitsev
For Chychrun a defenseman we don’t need and Keller a small RW who is -46 bad defensive 🫣
Debrincat is better then Keller 🤷‍♂️
Then we have Bath and Giroux we need to fix our bottom six wingers 🤙 not our top 6
JBD can be a good RD we need to find out

Agree 100%, this would be a bad trade for the Sens, if Dorion ever made this trade he would be cleaning the ice on a Zamboni the next day!

Heck ya, he would be a goner Dorion. But your team needs the coach and GM gone so they can achieve their potential

I disagree. Without a doubt Clayton Keller is a better asset overall IMO than DeBrincat when contracts come into play.

Clayton Keller plays in Arizona and has played with a horrible team. DeBrincat played with Patrick Kane and if you watch his goals on Youtube even, you can see how many 1 timers.

Sanderson and Zub are more than capable of being the defensive partners - I do agree we need a right shot defensive D-man, but it's as rare as getting an elite goalie

I thought Pinto, Batherson and DeBrincat was the Sens best line against Nashville. Need to see more of that as teams double down on the need to better defend Tkachuk, Stuetzle and Giroux.

Sens are 5-2-1 in their last 8.

Still hoping they can end December playing .500 hockey on the season.

Don't care if they make the playoffs. But, want to see them generate some serious attention in second half of season.

In case anyone was still fooled by Colin White's hot start, it's been a very sobering and predictable return to normal. He's now got just 12pts in 28GP, and if you break that up into 7GP sections his production has deteriorated from 6pts-3pts-2pts-1pts in each successive 7GP section. I always hoped White would find a way to work things out, but it's hard to suggest the Senators were wrong about him, given that his PPG in FLA has fallen into line with his career norms...

2020-21 (OTT) - 0.40PPG
2021-22 (OTT) - 0.42PPG
2022-23 (FLA) - 0.43PPG
Career (OTT-FLA) - 0.44PPG

Of course, it's also true that they're basically getting Joseph, Motte and White's buyout for the same $$$ they would have been paying White this year.

Sorry that's a massive MASSIVE overpay to Arizona.

And at this point I want nothing to do with Chychrun.

Find me Michael Stone please. We need a Phillips. Maybe with a hint of Methot nasty.

I get the overall consensus that there is frustration with Debrincat. I’ve had it at times as well, but I don’t think he is playing as badly as people make it seem. He’s awful defensively, yes. But I don’t remember acquiring him to fix the defense. He was acquired to help the offence. Has he scored at a lights out pace? No. However, he has shown good playmaking ability to get assists and is getting chances. If he is on pace for 70ish points when he is “struggling” I don’t think that’s a terrible situation to deal with. The contract situation will be interesting. Personally, I’d like to see him sign as it’s hard to get top 6 wingers these days especially with the prospect pool started to deplete in this organization.

Interesting deal. I don’t mind Keller. However, for me, biggest knock on this trade is acquiring 2 left hand shots when you move out Debrincat. It’s becoming increasingly clear that having a variety of handleness on the powerplay has helped it out this season. It creates more opportunities and creates a less predictable powerplay. On defence, it’s becoming clear that the team needs better right-handed d-men. Chychrun seems like a strong option on D but may not be the piece of the puzzle now as he was seen in the offseason.

At this point (with the playoffs out of reach) better to address the D in the off-season with a UFA because it doesnt cost you anything. And by signing Zub. And by finding out what JBD and Thomson are.

Problem is everyone looking for RD now.

Keller is getting 7.5 million up to 8million per year with a 10 million signing bonus
Money has very little to do with this trade
We need a Zub Methot player not another offensive DMan
And I’ll still take Debrincat over Keller
Specially when ya wanna give 2 1st Thomson and JBD for the pair 😂🫣

Exactly!

Sign Zub and figure out what you have in Thomson and JBD. Sign a UFA in the off-season after new management, GM have are running the team.

Im not accepting this.
These two men should have spent the last three years "seeing what they had in Thompson and JBD'. Now it's too late. Because they left them both in the minors too long and/or didn't find a quality replacement on the blue line and AND kept insisting on playing Josh Brown, or Zaitsev or Mike Reiley or Viktor Mete or whoever else wasn't good enough or coached well enough.

And that last point should really stick. Because Mike Reiley looked pretty darn good in Boston. Josh Brown was reasonable too. And Viktor Mete looks like a man reborn in blue. So does Mr. Murray. So...if all your players that weren't good enough on defense and goal in YOUR city --- go somewhere else and play in an actual system better......what does that say about your coaching staff?

Not a bad idea to wait to see what the free agent pool brings. Some names of interest who have RD experience are (assuming Zub stays here):

Matt Dumba
Damon Severson
Ryan Graves
John Klingberg
Eric Johnson
Radko Gudas

After that, there are LD options, RFA options, and grasping at straws options. Of the interesting names, I suspect high contracts will come attached. I suspect Graves, Severson, and Johnson will likely be resigned by their clubs. Klingberg is likely not a fit with this team. That leave Dumba and Gudas as most likely candidates. Dumba will likely fetch a bidding war and Gudas is on the downturn of his career.

So, while waiting for the summer is not a terrible idea, you may end up still having to explore the trading block one way or another.

I agree there is time for both JBD and Thomson. I am not sold either will be a huge anchor of the blueline other than a 5/6 guy, but they shouldn’t be written off yet. D-men take more time to develop generally. I do think it would be best to choose one or the other and use one in a trade while they still have some value rather than keeping them both and diluting both of their value.

I would be ok with Gudas he has that Methot hip check style 🤙
And he’s really not that bad this year 🤷‍♂️
25 games 40 blocks shots 90+ hits
He never has been a point producer and he’s in the + so I would welcome him 😉

He’s had a couple of blips of injuries this year and will be 33 by next season. He’s been a solid stay at home guy for a long time, but those guys don’t have terrible long shelf lives. I’d be weary bringing him in. Need to get a 24-year-old Gudas.
